Unique and truly rare color!
I am very happy with this unique and rare colored succulent! I would like to say that it was well packaged and it arrived in good condition. The plant arrived pretty healthy - especially considering it was without sun for a few days and shipped in colder weather (40s in GA). The lower leaves were pretty dry and shriveled so I removed them. It seems that most reviews say their plant arrived the same way. The soil it came in was pretty moist so I didn’t water it for 5 days. I repotted it 2 days after that (so one week after it arrived). It started looking much healthier after it was deadheaded and repotted. Not that it was terribly unhealthy to start with, but many plants experience a sort of shock from shipping and they just need a little TLC to thrive. The plant arrived a beautiful deep red/black color. The new growth is a bit lighter which is to be expected. But I believe the color will deepen again as it ages, and starts to get more full sun in the summer months. Succulents tend to be branded as “easy” to care for. However, they are only easy to care for if you know what the plant needs. And not all succulents need the same care. This plant needs fast draining soil, lots of sun, infrequent watering, and a good amount of moisture in the air. If you can care for the plant in that way I am sure you will be pleased with this beautiful and rare colored succulent as it continues to grow in your home!

No Clay pot.
The plant was somewhat limp, which could be expected after its journey. The three-inch clay pot though was plastic, green and didn't resemble clay in any way. I think I would buy it again.

very pleased, but not for beginners
It was tough to decide a number of starsPacked with care- of the three rosettes only TWO leaves were snapped- AMAZING!The 3" pot held three rosettes! That is a fantastic bargain! I could never find this plant locally in NY and I got THREE! YIPEEHOWEVER- They didn't arrive in the greatest shape. They weren't rooted in this pot (obvious by the 1/2" damp root layer over a base of dry potting mix - again not a deal breaker for me! That's not uncommon) or cultivated under ideal conditions. They're more like recently rooted cuttings than an established plant- but it's fall so I'm not surprised.IF you're a beginner just be cautious- these will not look like the photo. They are not gift ready unless you are giving them to a plant fanatic like me- and they are not in any condition to tolerate inexperienced handling or a prolonged sun-poor indoor winter in locations like mine (NY) without supplemental light. I am pleased with this purchase. These are tough plants, they will do fine becasue I can give them ideal conditions. I would buy from this seller again, BUT if I didn't have ideal conditions and wasn't familiar with the plant I would wait until the summer so they arrive at the peak of their growing season and can go outside for bright light that will allow you a little leeway for accidentally mistreating it.About this plant (rather than the seller) - It will only grow deeply black with very intense sunlight and it likes high humidity- BUT NOT damp soil... Over watering is the #1 killer. Its native to subtropical Mediterranean climates with high humidity but little rain. This is not a desert cactus, they don't do well in extreme heat or dry conditions.

Take the risk!
These are rare in the US and hard to snag at small nurseries. If this caught your eye, but you aren't sure after reading reviews, TAKE THE RISK! Many reviews on this seller are a bit old. I ordered a lot of plants from this seller this year (2020) and since everything else I ordered was perfect, I went ahead and ordered one of these too. It was packaged perfectly. The plant's rosette was closed, it looked awkward and like it was going to fall over. I was afraid I'd gotten my first dud from this seller. Nope, they just need a lot of sun, which they don't get while shipping. A splash of water, two days on a bright windowsill and bam! It opened up to reveal a beautiful, dark red/black rose! Some notes about mine: I've overwatered it a bit, so there's a touch of damage that's from me, not the seller. It needs at least 16 hours of BRIGHT light in order to turn black, which mine does not get indoors, which is why it's not "black". But, I'm very happy with it nonetheless. It really stands out!

Half dead plant
This plant had absolutely no vitality. Half the leaves had fallen off and I believe it was a combination of the packaging and the quality of the plant. Why bother filling the box with styrofoam peanuts (which can’t even be recycled and only pollute the planet) if you’re going to shove the plant in a plastic bag, STRANGLE it with rubber bands and then shove that in a paper bag that is shoved in the styrofoam. The rubber bands weren’t wrapped around the stem but wrapped around the top of the plant/leaves. But that wasn’t the only reason the leaves fell off. Some of the ones that were still on the plant fell off with the slightest touch. It was a very anemic plant.

Looks as advertised, arrived healthy and looking great
I received this plant about 3 weeks ago and it's doing great. I live in Rochester, NY and rolled the dice on it surviving the shipping in the well below freezing temps, and it did great. It arrived in a box surrounded by foam packing peanuts which I'm sure helped prevent it from getting damaged. It even sat outside by the door for a couple of hours before I got it inside. The plant arrived healthy and only looked a little stressed (some of the leaves looked a bit shriveled and folded in) but that went away after a couple of days and is now growing very well. It came in the pot shown in the picture (drip tray not included), and aside from trimming some of the lower leaves and starting to train it to face toward the side (and a few weeks of growth), it arrived looking just like it you see here.Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone looking for a Black Rose Tree.
