Kills fleas well normally, but some seasons fleas are particular difficult to control. This is a bad flea year for my area!!!
I have used this product for years on my dogs & can normally go as long as up to 8 weeks between doses. I have noticed that on some years (2014 & 2011) that the fleas are particular difficult to control. I know it is not due to this product not being effective because I have treated my yard with 2 different products that normally work very well within a 10 day period & even those products have made very little difference in the fleas. I have treated my dogs at 9 days & repeated again at 13 days. I am also using natural flea shampoo & topical sprays with essential oils. The fleas do die within 12 hours, but by that time my dog with allergies is a mess due to bites before they die. I am now seeing primarily very tiny fleas which tells me that I am achieving some control over the adult fleas. I dislike giving doses that close together, but that is what the insert recommends (actually every 7 days until controlled) for heavy flea infestations. One of my dogs has terrible flea allergies. He has been miserable & has been on prednisone & benadryl for over a month. I don't even like for him to be outdoors because they are so bad. I have to pick fleas off both dogs every time they step outside. I don't have any carpet in my home so I know they are not living in my house. It just seems that some years the fleas are just almost impossible to control. I am in Savannah, Ga. Last summer, the fleas were no problem at all. I did not even treat my lawn. I only gave Advantage every 6-8 weeks. The summer of 2011 was also a bad flea year. I'm not sure what is the cause, probably something to do with the weather or maybe they just have cyclic bad years (who knows). I thought this would be a mild year for fleas because the winter was so cold, but that apparently is not true. I have learned that unfortunately on bad flea years it will take a few months to get the fleas under control even using multiple products. Nothing much else you can do, but suffer until they are under control!!...............Update: After treating my yard with 2 different products within a month & treating my dogs with 3 doses (once every 10 days), the fleas appear to finally be under control. No fleas for 3 days!!! Allergic dog is finally getting some relief. Hopefully, I can now only treat my dogs monthly since I have gotten the severe flea infestation under control. It just takes a while to break the flea life cycle if you have a severe infestation..............UPDATE...Fleas are finally under control. Have not had to re-apply for 4 weeks. Just had a small flea on my allergic dog. Will re-apply today. Once you break the flea life cycle this will control the fleas. I buy the large dog size package & draw out the dosage for each dog with a blunt tip syringe. This is more cost effective & I have found that I can control the fleas by using a smaller dosage for my 30lb dog with allergies. The size package for his weight is a 2.5ml dose (weight range 21-55 lbs). He only weighs 30lbs & the weight limit is a very broad range for his size. The next smaller size range (10 to 20 lbs) is 1.0 ml so at approximately 0.5ml per 10 lbs, I don't feel he needs the entire 2.5ml dose & I have found that he does not. I normally am able to give him only 1.5 to 2.0 ml which will work fine once the severe infestation is under control. I don't like having to give chemicals to my dog & the less the better. He also has skin problems & the Advantage does seem to flare up his skin problems, so less is better. I am also able to give my cat a dose if he happens to pick up an untreated flea (he is an inside cat, but he will occasionally sneak out if he can). The Advantage is the same ingredients for dogs & cats (also confirmed with my vet), but the Advantix is NOT. DO NOT give Advantix to cats!

Works on battle with fleas
I have always used Advantage on my two cats and one dog. I just adopted a pit and started her out on this as soon as she got home, since spring is right around the corner. works and she has no side effects, except for no fleas.

Bought this for my cats(yes, cats)
I've been dosing down advantage for 2 decades. Sad that multi seems gone as it got 3 types of parasites including tapeworm which often follows flea infestations. YOU CANNOT DO THIS WITH ADVANTIX. As long as the percentage of the active ingredients is the same on the dogs as it is with the cats, it's only a matter of dosage size(you can do this with Frontline too but to me they're as good as hartz in efficacy) so my kitten(2-5lbs) gets 0.23ml and my massive fat cat(over 9lbs) gets 0.8ml. Cats that are 5-9lbs would get 0.4ml. Saves quite a lot.

Okay for Relatively Safe, Basic Flea Protection
I guess it's back to the (relatively overpriced) brand now that the "Advantage II" generics for dogs seem to have all but disappeared, leaving those needing a proven safe product for just flea control, or an appropriately split-dosed option for multiple cats (NOT something that can be done with Advantix etc.) in a lurch. It seems Bayer sold off their Advantage line to Elanco, but hopefully the composition has remained the same and just as effective given that the price has stayed much higher than former equivalents like CrossBlock II and Combiva II.
