This is a powerful prebiotic. It took 2 months to go from a tiny pinch daily to my current maintenance dose of 1 teaspoon per day. Gas and extreme bloating were major side effects until about 1/2 of the way through. By the end of those 2 months, my stomach became super flat, and also (embarrassingly, but could be helpful for some), the fire in my tush finally went out. Both bloating and tush issues are sensitive areas for me, and while not a cure, this went a long way in curbing those symptoms. Obviously, this will work only if one is lactose intolerant. I read a paper postulating that the decreasing ability of adults to digest lactose could provide advantage (thus selective pressure?) in maintaining intestinal health into advanced age. Interesting.

Wow i didn't know this stuff existed before I started brewing. I learned that to back sweeten my ciders that I need to add a non-fermentable sugar, cue the lactose sugar. I honestly didn't know it had so many different uses.Tastes great in my brews!

Bit of an odd one for me to review, but hubby is a Veterinarian and he needed this to give some medication to cows. Worked as expected, and he was very happy with the price for the quality/freshness.

A bit pricy but worth it. I bought this product to aid in digestion and regularity for my son. It helps to soften stool and keep you regular without cramps! I rather give my child something I know and grew up with, than medicine I can't pronounce. I trust NOW Foods and use several products from this company. A warning about Lactose Sugar, Do Not Use if you are lactose intolerant!

Wasn't sure how much a pound would be, it was enough for 2 cups. Enough for me to slightly sweeten 3 gallons of hard cider and I still added a 2/3 cups of Splenda and the lactose was enough to take the artificial edge off the Splenda and smooth out the acidity quite nice.I don't think it's worth the price, however.

So when I say "I love" something it means it does everything it is promised to do, which is as much as I can ask of something. This was used to do a simple at home lactose intolerance test to try and see if someone was reacting to lactose, whey, or casein.

I ordered 4 of these as I use this almost everyday. 3 of the 4 were delivered perfectly but the 4th one had a tear in the packaging and the cardboard box it came in was covered in lactose powder. Just a heads up if ordering.

My son is always constipated and has a very hard time using the bathroom. I am from Germany and remember being fed lactose in cases like that.I just add 1tsp of the lactose to his breakfast (the cereal or the milk) every morning and he is doing a lot better now.
