As a person who requires reading glasses, no these do not help magnify the words at all. However, I am able to wear glasses underneath these prism glasses. This is all assuming that by readers, you also mean glasses.

Q: Can these be worn in an MRI?

Technically it might be possible but check with the hospital to be sure. Some things will get very hot and can cause burns. Also because of the strength of an MRI magnetic field it may react to materials in this product that a typical household magnet would not. Some MRI providers will offer goggles that are like watching TV. even small body movements can impact the quality of the MRI images so you would not be able to turn pages of a book for example.
