Morris Perfect Storm Box Lightning And Thunder Effects Machine

I bought this lightning machine as a back up for the one I bought ten years ago which still works perfect for my Halloween display.

The media could not be loaded. This thing is amazing. Well worth the money. The effect is wonderful. So many complements and people taking videos of the house. After Halloween, my wife and I sat in the living room and listened to the thunder/lightning with the light effect for an hour it really felt like we weren't in the Bay Area, CA. When I first researched "thunderstorm lighting effect" I was imagining the devices would be a speaker + light all in one, which this is not. This is a box that can modulate / flicker the power to the output receptacle based on the audio or mic input signal. The sensitivity knob is fantastic because it lets you dial in the threshold. I hooked a 50W LED panel into the output receptacle and used the "mic input" mode from a Bluetooth speaker that was streaming from my Laptop in the house. The speaker was about 5 feet away with sensitivity at about 30%. It was incredible. The ONE thing they could improve It is to provide a URL to the sound file as MP3 or WAV. The CD is outdated. I found someone that ripped it to YouTube and I played from there since I had no way to read the CD!

I ordered the perfect storm hesitantly after reading some of the revues. Although after looking at the prices of other lightning controllers I figured what the heck I’ll give it a try. When I opened the box I immediately got a surprise, the side of the device said perfect storm 2.0. I didn’t even know such a thing existed, turns out version 2.0 has both a mini jack audio input and a mic on it. When you use the audio input it automatically disables the microphone; this is great because in all honesty I bought this thinking I would modify it to do exactly this. Because of the other reviews I immediately opened it up before attempting to use it to verify all the interior components were in working order. Everything was together and clean inside. So I put it back together and fired it up. I put the included cd in my player, ran a mini to mini cable from the headphone jack built into my cd player and cranked up the stereo. It works really well the audio input is adjustable with the sensitivity knob I got best results with it at halfway and the headphone out turned too halfway, so I still have plenty of room to play around with when using other storm tracks.The included cd is a burned cd with a single 63-minute track on it. The sound quality is pretty good; I’ve heard better but I have also heard worse. The track is only thunder there is no rain or wind sounds. It some parts of the track have rapid secession of thunder and other parts get pretty slow. I will probably not use the cd, opting instead to put together my own tracks that include wind and rain noise.I have tested a few times now using up to 500 watts worth of bulbs and has worked every time. I am very happy with the purchase. I would have given it 5 stars if the cd had more tracks with different storms to choose from.

Perfect Storm 2.0 works like a charm and as advertised. I didn't listen to the audio samples on the included CD but I did do my homework up front to ensure that my lights didn't exceed 1,000 watts. The build in microphone was perfect outside only about 6 inches from the bluetooth speaker. I connected the speaker to my iphone and drove the effects sound over Bluetooth. I did not purchase a 3.5mm audio cable to test out. I searched itunes for various tracks to test out and the best one that worked for me was "Heavenly Weather (Thunderstorm Sounds) 2017 - Track 5 - Thunder and Lightning". I let the track play through and kept adjusting the sensitivity knob to get the right amount of lightning flash vs. rain. It worked like a charm and I got so many compliments from both the trick-or-treaters and the parents. Definitely worth the investment. For the record, because it's an electronic device, I did not leave it out in the rain. For next year, I'm going to cut out a rectangular hole in a plastic storage container to allow the sound to get to the microphone and put the unit inside of the container with the lid on to keep the moisture out. We will see!UPDATE: I've taken impeccable care of my Perfect Storm 2.0, packing it in the original box each year and have never dropped it or gotten it wet. I was disappointed to set it up the day before Halloween to test it out to find out it no longer works. While the unit is 4 years old, it's worked like a charm and I've only had it on for about 4 hours on Halloween night only for the past 4 years. I'm using the same 300-watt light fixture I've used each year that has worked fine and this year the light just stays lit up and it doesn't respond to the soundtrack I always use. I tried the built-in microphone and the 3.5 mm auxiliary jack and neither works. I still give it 5 starts but I'm pretty disappointed it didn't last longer than 4 years, given the limited use.

Donated it to a haunted house. It did the job. It looked cool!

The media could not be loaded. This thing works great. Adds a whole new ambience to my Halloween entryway. I've gotten quite a few compliments already. I've only used it about 5 or 6 times so I can't say anything about longevity but so far I would highly recomend it.
