Fabulous Book that Is Nearly a Precious Gift to Myself
This book was shipped sealed in plastic well-- it was a waterproof unit.Further, it was packed with airbags to be well-protected.Very impressed with the shipment, since too many items are sent in a box without packing material.Any hardback book should be sent carefully to avoid damages to the dustcover and corners. The book itself is a wonderful survey of patterns and designs, especially in architecture. The diversity and scope of its coverage, especially in a geographical sense, is just phenomenal.I have borrowed it enough times from my public library that I already knew its incredible value.A goodly number of the designs I had only seen hand-drawn, so the current photographs are a joy to observe the proper proportions and symmetry in details and the overall treatments. It was a pleasure to find it available at a fantastic price (used, but like new).As said in the heading, it feels like a special gift from me to me.Definitely worth all five stars!Be well.Be safe.

Exquisite Imagery
This book is amazing. I have had it for a couple weeks and find it hard to put down. It will appeal to anyone who loves Islamic art: the photographs are outstanding and it could be displayed on any coffee table with pride. Yet, for the artist and designer, it is a treasure trove of images and ideas. Broug meticulously analyzes every design, and there are instructions in the back of the book that show you how to recreate many of them.I could also see this book (as well as Broug's "Islamic Geometric Patterns") being used by teachers: art teachers who want to introduce their students to Islamic design and math teachers who wish to bring geometry to life.

Fascinating and Beautiful
This book was filled with beautiful pictures of Islamic art. What was even more enjoyable was how the author showed how the designs were based on 4, 5, or 6 pointed shapes. There was also a section at the back of the book that includes instructions on drawing these shapes. I would definitely recommend this book.

Solid Instruction, Pictures Lacking
Lots of good instruction, but if you're looking for photos of breathtaking masterpieces then this isn't your book. The photo on the cover is by far the best one in the book. That being said, the instruction is excellent and easy to follow for anyone interested in how it's done.

Monumental Resource
Eric Broug improves on his second work on the subject of Islamic Art.There are not many resources on this subject and you would do well with this one. It is beautifully bound, on display in my home in fact. The pictures inside do something I have never seen done: they show an image as an example of Islamic Art and then disect it for the artist informing them how it is done.Illuminating and important insight into this fading artform.

Breaks down complex patterns to its most basic elements
Even the most complex geometric design can be broken down to simple components. This book shows how these beautiful patterns can be created from circles and lines. Very interesting.
