Underground Mining Methods: Engineering Fundamentals and International Case Studies

I bought this book and another for an upcoming Professional Exam. Unfortunately, so while I studied and graduted in Engineering I did not specifically study mining engineering in college and pretty much need to learn an entire discipline in 3 months when it takes 4 or more years to do so.In stark contrast to another book I purchased, this book is a standard of excellence. Not only is much of the information useful, clear and noteworthy it is easy to read and reads well. In other words, even though the book is purely technical in nature it was genuinely an enjoyable survey.Most if not all of the contributors wrote compelling case studies, were forthright in the uniqueness of their situations and still tied it back to general principles and theories. They were frank, honest, ethical and seemed eager to pass wisdom.Parts that were principle based and theoretical were in recognizable nomenclature, followed easily understood derivations and were bolstered with real examples that were also easy to follow. Calculations were straightforward and to the point. There were no surprise derived equation as in, Substitute Eq 5.1.300 in chapter 5 into this equation 29.33.200 in chapter 29 to get this partial equation for...Finally, and I admit that this is silly, but in a dry world of handbooks where most technical reference books are either an offending bright primary color (ie SME Handbook 2nd Edition) or basically just a blank cover with letters, this book has a pretty cool cover images. Yes, it is silly, but into bought it and I am glad I did.

Comprehensive coverage of the mining sector by various discipline experts. Case study approach is great as each package is relatively small and can be read in depth, if required.

Super helpful introductory book for those going into industry but maybe not engineering. Definitely recommend it!

Good book for someone within the industry trying to refresh some concepts or defining a good range of key drivers for UG mining.

valuable information with study cases and pictures that can help me understand the methods much better. the best so far among other underground book.

I really recommend this book to any engineering interested in underground mine planning. Excellent introduction to the modern underground mining methods.
