Not For the Faint of Heart (Or Respiratory Tract...
This e.p. is not for everyone. This e.p. is not for much of anyone, really. I mean, a title track that is literally painful to listen to (since its bedrock motif is an emulation of the piercingly shrill ringing that asthmatics hear when they overdose on Salbutamol) is a very clear omen that the album is probably not going to debut on the Billboard Heatseeker's chart. Fortunately for less intrepid listeners, these are only ostensible "Ventolin" remixes; they have absolutely NOTHING to do with the original. That's classic Aphex for ya.Essentially, the remixes are peculiar hiphop ventures with a curt industrial twist. Well, save for "Ventolin (Crowsmengegus mix)", which is essentially a bawdy Irish jig with a curt industrial twist...Interspersed throughout the album are some of the most unsettling yet hilarious vocal samples ever slapped haphazardly on a track. I assume one was intended to be a disconcerting portrayal of asthmatics overdosing, inserted to provide Richard with a good yuk at the listener's expense. And yet, as perturbing as they are, I really couldn't consider the album complete without them.In conclusion, if you're a rabid Aphexionado, especially of the raucous "73-Yips" & "Ventolin" (duh!) Aphex, snag yourself a copy of this. You should be able to locate it for fairly cheap, since it seems that everyone would be glad to trade their copy for a couple bucks. Aphex neophytes, you shouldn't buy this until you own mostly everything else. Unless you really happen to like "Ventolin", which of course should prompt you to snag that singular single's eponymous mini-album. You should also give the "Ventolin (Remixes) E.P." a chance. It's harsher, but not as loopy.

worst album of the best artist
I have heared negative reviews of the Ventolin EPs but, being an Aphex phreak, decided to purchase them anyway. And I am disappointed! It appears that Richard was running low on money and needed to make some quickly. The quality and diversity of the songs is significantly lower then his other works; the backside of the cover has a straightforward Aphex merchandise; for some reason Richard split the remixes in 2 CDs, even though they would easily fit on one; etc.The remixes (WARP60CDR) are overall a bit better then the first CD. I'll review it by track:-1. VENTOLIN (wheeze mix) - even more harsh on the unprepared ears then the original, 'Caustic Window' style techno track. Smooth multi-layered melody flows over the squeaky chaos of breaking beats.2. ventolin CARHARRAK mix - repetitive lo-fi sounding techno. Well, at least it's short. My least favourite on the EP.3. ventolin PROBUS mix - calm, melodic track, somehow reminds me of medieval music. Music in the shades of tan.4. ventolin (CYLOB mix) - starts up as fractured, relatively harsh techno, but it soon develops into a pretty good synth tune.5. VENTOLIN (deep gong mix) - slow melody filled with low frequencies is enjoyable, until you hear those annoying clipping twitches here and there, like someone forgot to blend the samples smoothly or remove DC offset...6. VENTOLIN (asthma beats mix) - an interesting trippy track, with a bit of 'Drukqs' style. I wish this one was a bit longer, it had plenty of potential to create a full-length track.-Overall, I would not recommend getting WARP60 (original ventolin) to anyone, and this second one (WARP60R) to anyone but hardcore Aphex fans. This is probably the worst album Richard has done so far. Though it has some good tracks too...

Six remixes for cash
2 1/2Mildly maintaining, mostly mediocre un-Ventolin like display which goes way beneath standard levels of quality for James but does retain enough signature kick to warrant just the slightest of ganders.
