Easy to fit
Very happy with this, incorporates all the features I want in a smoke detector; long life battery, an escape light and good sized test button. After reading other reviews I thought it might be tricky to fit, but instructions were straightforward and easy to follow. I put it up in less than 10 minutes (my ceiling is smooth finish, standard plaster board).

Who designed this?
I didnt expect such a simple device could be so fiddly to install! Seeing other reviews I decided to test the bracket. Big mistake. It locked into place and wouldnt come off.Fortunately I had put the plastic centre screw in first.I superglued the centre screw in place then drilled a 8mm hole in the plasterboard ceining while the glue was curing. Then just screwed it in place. Seems to have worked. If it comes loose I'll add a blob of decorators caulk.I also noticed the manufacture date was Oct 16 so guess it is old stock that didnt shift so probably not the full 10yr life.Seems to work but won't be buying another one.

Useless bracket that just tears holes in the ceiling
Agree with Niki's comment on the Kitchen version of this alarm - the mounting bracket is stupidly small and this makes mounting on a ceiling next to impossible.Using the supplied plasterboard fitting I fitted the bracket to the ceiling. Then it was a fiddle to try and get the lugs on the alarm to engage with the bracket; when they did the torque required to get the alarm to latch tore the bracket out of the ceiling leaving a little hole.Repaired the hole and refitted the bracket using the fixing screw option to fix through the ceiling to the joist above. Tried to engage the alarm and it tore another bigger hole in the ceiling! You would expect the bracket to be about the same size as the alarm but it's not its about 4cm in diameter.I am now looking for wooden ceiling roses (greater in diameter than the alarm) which I can firmly fit to the ceiling before fitting the bracket again. If the torque required to engage the alarm tears out an even bigger hole they (the bedroom & hallway versions) are going back (and I will use the refund for polyfiller!)

Rubbish.
I had 2 of the bedroom alarms and this one on the landing. The bedroom alarms went off whilst we were asleep on separate occasions s and this one alarmed for no reason yesterday. Iām glad to say I have bought some EI alarms that are working well. These Kidde alarms are rubbish
