Awesome!
I first read these two main characters in Kathryn Le Veque's novella included in "Once Upon A Haunted Castle, a Celtic Romance Anthology." I was immediately captivated by their devotion to one another and the great love they shared. I was so pleased to see that Ms. Leveque decided to write an entire book about their meeting. "The Red Lion" is that story. This book was very much character-driven. The women (featuring Lady Havilland de Llion), are warriors who were raised as sons, given swords at an early age and very skilled in their use, and yet vulnerable in their confidence and experience as women. They are English, yet raised entirely in Wales. Our hero, Jamison Munro, is a Scott (along with his fellow "Lions of the Highlands"), who fostered with a very powerful English dynasty, the de Lohrs, is unbeaten in battle, fierce, yet even tempered and fair. So, we have a clash in cultures, personalities, countries and loyalties. There is a constant threat to the castle, that is being defended by Jamison, of being overrun by the Welsh, there is the puzzle of the tactics being employed by said Welsh, there is the suspicion of a spy leaking information, there is the mystery of the non-appearance of the lord of the castle who is in residence, and there is the hostility displayed by the women towards those defending their castle. Despite these and other factors that keep cropping up, the electricity that is apparent between Lady Havilland and Jamison cannot be denied.I loved this book. As with all Kathryn Le Veque's books, I was immediately hooked right into the story from the first few pages with an edge-of-your seat ride. The descriptions of the settings and characters were thorough, without being wordy. The story, with all its twists and turns, flowed beautifully. The hero was swoonworthy and not overpowering. The heroine wasn't stupid, whinny and stubborn to the point of aggravating, which I find way too much these days. There was always something happening, which kept my interest throughout. The romance itself was warm and sweet and I loved the dialogue between the two main characters.I never would have had a clue that this was Kathryn Le Veque's first foray into the world of medieval Highlanders. It is a winner. Yep, this book is a keeper. And, what a fantastic way to set up more captivating stories for the rest of the "Lions of the Highlands." I can't wait to read their stories!

I loved it
Jamison Munro is a typical big, strong Highland warrior, known as the Red Lion. He also brings a lot of experience in different styles of war fare because he was trained, along with three other Scottish sons, by some of the greatest English Knights. He has only been home, training his father's men for a short while. Now because of a deadly encounter caused by his brother, he's going south again. Although our hero is very good at his job, he really wanted to stay home for longer. The conditions around this latest battle are not helping his temper.Lady Havilland de Llion and her sisters have been brought up by their father to be the sons he never had. That means they are very capable warriors. For the last years they have needed that training, but things are getting more difficult every day. Having a stranger trying to order her men around is not going happen if she can help it. There is a secret at the castle that the girls can't let anyone know about. The castle is at a very important place in the Welsh Marches, that makes attempted invasions a regular occurrence. This is an action packed historical adventure. You will easily fall in love with our characters. They grab your attention from page one until the end. There are temper tantrums, battles and a few tears. The romance is unusual and not very popular with others. Hopefully we will eventually get the stories about the other Scottish Lions. As usual for any book by this author we get a well written, full story that has everything you could want.I loved it.

Ted Lion a Review
I am a avid reader of Ms Le Veque... i have read almost every book that she has written. This book did not disappoint me. I thought the plot was well developed and overall was a new twist on an old romance theme but then again that is why I read Katherine's books. I am always transported to a new time and place and can lose myself in the variety of adventures and romance that her characters live. I am always aware that she teaches me something about healing, the way castles are built and what society was like, I know many readers must envision themselves in her plots. It is subtle what she does. I wish I had her wonderful imagination but I do not and must relinquish control of my own imaginative powers to Katherine Le Veque's careful transportation o fmy own through a new novel.Personal Data Log (Active) Jump to flowsheet Time Taken Time Submitted Systolic (mmHg) Diastolic (mmHg) Steps (count) Weight (lb) Pulse (count / min) Blood Oxygen Saturation ((0.00 - 1.00)) Glucose (mg / dL) BMI (count) There is no data to be displayed. If you have never read books of this genre then do yourself a favor and read any one of the books that she has written and you will be hooked.

Intense
Excellent read could not put it down. Enough detail to enhance the passion and treachery of the Middle Ages along with the need to complete their expected political duty. Character rich with Jamison being the main character who is 'the red lion' a powerful, intimidating knight who finds he can be compassionate when tamed. The passions of all are so beautifully told that you can sense what their emotions and feel their pain. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking adventure and history with a touch of romance.

Another great story
Medieval England, big highlanders in kilts, strong women willing to fight for their homes, what more can you want. Unless it is a story combining all these elements and written by Kathryn Le Veque.

Oooohhh, I do love a big brawn highlander and there is four of them. This is the first of Kathryns books I have read, I'm definitely sure it's not going to be the last.

Another brilliantly written book from my favourite author. It captures the turbulence of the times and as with all her books the women are the strong ones.
