Rockingham Forge Magnetic Bamboo Knife Block, 8 Knife Max

Great knife block, just make sure to check the size!
As another reviewer said, careful which size you buy! I bought a small (20cmx20cmx7cm) and this is surprisingly big. As you can see from the photo it is easily large enough to take the largest of knife blades, you can see a chef's knife with a 20cm blade comfortably stored in it.The bamboo wood itself is nice, and I like the perspex cover to avoid catching yourself on knives by accident whilst also protecting the knives from getting scraped whilst on the kitchen top. This design certainly makes the knife block far easier to clean than alternatives, just simply take of the perspex (unscrew it) and quickly wipe the board, incredibly easy! The magnet block is particularly useful for allowing you to store knives of different shapes, sizes and sets together in one place. My main reason for getting a magnetic knife block was so I'd be able to store a Santoku knife with the rest of my knives and this would not fit in many normal knife blocks.I've now had the knife block for a few weeks and I'm starting to get used to the fact that you have to pull the knives out vertically and straight to avoid dragging them across the screws in the perspex. This was annoying initially however I've quickly got used to it. The base of the knife block makes it fairly stable, so even with all your knives on one side it's not likely to tip over. The material on the bottom also works well for stopping it sliding about or scratching anything underneath it.Now for some of the negatives:The magnets inside must be individual strips as I've found that I have to place knives in very specific positions in order to stop them slanting over to the side. I'd hoped I could quickly slide a knife into the block vertically and trust it to stay in just that position, but I have to be very precise to achieve this.As I mentioned earlier pulling knifes out vertically can be a little difficult at times, especially if the block is positioned underneath a kitchen cabinet like it is for me. I would have preferred a knife block with a bit of an angle on it so I could pull knives out towards me. Like I said earlier though, you get used to this.Overall, I would definitely recommend this knife block. It's stylish, effective for storing a range of different knives and is very easy to clean. Despite some of the negative points I mentioned I still haven't spotted a better option anywhere else for a similar price. The magnetic storage option is a great way for keeping your knives protected but also not dulling the blades by sliding them into or out of grooves in a standard block.

Beautiful and practical
Having gone through many knife racks and blocks, over the years, this is the first one that I can describe as looking truly beautiful on the worktop. It really does. It is beautifully made and was very well packed, too. I have six knives in it, three on each side, simply because these are the ones I use most often. One is a santuko and fairly wide, but there is still room for at least one more reasonably sized knife on both sides. My Robert Welch knives look fantastic in it. One tip...better not to stand it under a cupboard, as you need at least the length of the knife in space, to be able to pull it out. I have the perfect spot and it looks great.

Fabulous bamboo knife block
Brilliant knife block I have an awful lot of knives in this block despite being the "small" one. The only very slight niggle is the very short knife is not held by the magnet but it doesn't bother me to much and it doest fall out so no worries. The company were very friendly and helpful when the first one arrived broken. I contacted them straight away and they organised a replacement and provided a prepaid label to return it to them. All in all I cannot fault either the block or the company and I would happily recommend both. I have attached a photo but it seems Amazon likes it on the side view.

Excellent, looks great
Holds six knives, magnets are strong enough to hold the blades in and make it easy to pull free. I assume the cover is in case you accidentally knock the knives off because I haven't seen any real need for it so far.
