They are sensitive but I guess it's hard to complain about that
I can say that these alarms work! It detects even small amounts of "kitchen flame" where cooking oil briefly catches fire under high gas flame conditions - and the detector is maybe 20 feet away in the dining rom. I have these installed for maybe 3 months and I haven't had any false alarms. And the only alarm has gone off due to kitchen smoke, and I think that's appropriate. I wouldn't call them overly sensitive, but they are more sensitive than the alarms I replaced them with. They have a very dim "on" light that flashes about every 15 seconds. But in my dark bedroom it's not noticeable at night. I would recommend trying to position this at the head of the bed rather than at the foot where your sight line is, even though it's a very dim flash, if you are a sensitive sleeper. I find that blinking lights keep me awake in hotels, but I haven't had the problem with this.

Kidde's the best; I no longer bother wit the rest
What can you say about a smoke + carbon monoxide alarm? Everybody knows what they do. So I'll just cut to what I like most and least.LEAST: Mounted on hall ceiling a couple feet outside the bathroom, this sensitive alarm has been triggered by steam escaping the bathroom after a long, hot shower. Solution: leave the bathroom ceiling fan on for 2-3 minutes after turning off the hot water. BTW, a quick press on the button on the face of the alarm quickly silences it.MOST: 10-year sealed battery is good for the life of the alarm; no battery changes...ever.Of the 3 brands I have tried the past 20-some years, Kidde smoke + carbon monoxide alarms have given me the fewest hassles and the most satisfaction.

10 year battery life
Excellent replacement for an aging smoke detector. Combines both smoke and carbon monoxide detection that lasts for 10 years. No need to replace batteries any more. Unit seems to be very durable and installation was very easy. Very good price point for a combination detector.

Good quality smoke and CO2 detector but I wish they would standardize brackets
The time finally came. Our smoke and carbon monoxide detector (also a Kidde brand) from 2010 finally died and we needed a replacement and the unholy chirp constantly reminded us. After reading various reviews from various online sources, we settled on this newer Kidde smoke and carbon monoxide detector with a sealed 10 year battery. The detector itself was easy enough to install with the included bracket but my biggest gripe is that there is no bracket standard, not just between brands but within the same brand. So to install the new bracket I had to pluck the old wall anchors out and drill new holes for new anchors because the hole pattern was different. Very frustrating because a standard set of hole patterns would allow you to utilize the old anchor points, saving time. I'm too lazy to fill and repaint all the holes so the detector is covering up decades of various bracket holes.Positives+ Sealed unit with 10 year life so no battery replacements+ Easy enough to install+ Easy to test and see function by color coded LEDs+ Detects both smoke and carbon monoxideNegatives- No bracket standard hole pattern means having to drill new holes and possibly remove old anchors

Love these -
First off I am reluctant to say "buy" any style smoke/co detector as I am not an expert on these things. But I choose these for my previous home right before we moved and my new home. I assume they work in a real situation - (Tested one once with a little smoke and it worked). The thing that I like about these is - They do not go off by accident - so far - Cooking or the little bit of smoke from our wood burning stove - they do not react too. This is a win as one of my dogs goes crazy after hearing the alarm and that's also a win of the real thing happens. The 10 year battery and the Kidde name was also the reason I choose these.

DO NOT BUY!
Bought these less than a month ago. 3 weeks after being installed, the alarms started going off at random. The first time being in the middle of the night causing me to frantically grab my newborn and run out of the house…. Turning out there was no smoke, fire or carbon monoxide to set it off. I contacted Amazon and they denied a return or refund and recommended I call the manufacturer Kidde and when I did, they too denied any refund. So I spent $175 for products that don’t even work and can’t get my money back.
