CompTIA CySA+: Practice Tests Exam CS0-001

Advanced Level Preparation for the CySA+ Exam
OK so here's the deal on this book. I purchased this book because I was looking for another set of practice questions for the CySA+ exam. I completed video training from Pluralsight and Udemy. Each course came with their own set of practice exams, and I had an uneasy feeling that their practice exam questions were not difficult enough. After purchasing this book, I started going through the 1000 questions and answers. I felt stupid. These questions were difficult, to say the least. I'm not complaining, however. These questions really taught me to read the questions CAREFULLY and select answers based upon reasoned logic. By the time I finished all 1000 questions and then went back through them for review, I felt completely confident to schedule my exam the next day. This book contained MANY questions on Linux, and, coming from a Microsoft background, I was unable to answer many of them, so I spent hours researching Linux commands online. Bottom lione: I scored a 788 on the exam and I don't think I could have passed without the extra practice I got from these advanced-level questions. PS: I did not get a single Linux-related security question on my exam :). I highly recommend this book to aid in your preparation for what turned out to be a very challenging exam.

These are hard tests
These are hard tests because I found some answers are not in the accompanying book or a very very popular sec plus book. Now this may simply be an indicator of how tough the test is and unfortunately COMPTIA don’t create their own book with the required knowledge, they provide a loosely defined set of objectives which of course can cover a wide range of information per objective. How deep do you go, COMPTIA don’t strictly define that. In saying that that last statement would not be easy because this test is about experience as well as knowledge. However after looking at some of these questions I thought oh no, I have A LOT more studying and practical to do to be able to pass this whereas I had easily passed CYSA practice tests from other vendors. So I think this is good if this is an indicator of the type of questions and toughness of some of them in the real test. Good luck.

Very useful and tough questions
I used this book along with the study guide from this author, and the linkedin videos he is in. I have to say that having also used another vendor for the reading material, this practice exam book was tough but in a good way! it presented scenarios, questions, wording, and trickery that I have found consistent with the way CompTIA writes their questions. I am not a fan of the CompTIA exams because I think they are very tricky and not beginner friendly, but this book helped me to get ready for it. I took the exam and was successful, I wish I had bought his books for my 3 previous certifications to get a grasp of the concepts and test-like questions.

Some good log questions, but these questions are often too hard, not material on exam
Passed with an 806. I don't really recommend this book. It's not very much like the exam. The log questions in this are really OK for the most part and enabled me to realize I needed *lots* more studying after I'd finished study materials, including some hands on with Nessus logs. The CySA+ is not like A+, Net+, Sec+ where you can just memorize a bunch of stuff. It's more like the CCNA or something where you actually need to understand how to use and apply this stuff. But even those logs have some topics that are just not on the objectives. I felt like maybe this was a watered down CASP book or borrowed from some other testing materials. Some of this stuff is way off base. The book has some errors in the answers, too.I can't really recommend this book.IMO, get the Jason Dion udemy course (I also watched the TotalSeminars Chapman one off udemy), the Sybex book (same authors IIRC). And if you want practice tests get the add'l Dion practice tests. His material was the closest to the test.

Good for Preparation for CySA+ (CSA) exam
I read through this book in a week, took exam 26 July 2019. (Congratulations on achieving your CompTIA certification!)CompTIA CySA+ ce Certification Issuer: CompTIAI used this book as a reference and although I cannot say I scored as high as i would have liked, this book provided enough information coupled with knowledge already learned to easily pass the exam. I actually had enough time during the exam to actually review every question again and still have a little over an hour left when I clicked submit on the exam. I have since been asked by several of my co-workers who want to take the exam in the next few weeks what i used to study and I recommended this book.

Mistakes inside. Still useful for practice.
I used this and the sybex study guide, along with some other self study tools to pass this exam on the first try. The practice tests are messed up though. There are several errors inside that I was able to catch. Right answers with the wrong letter, wrong answers with the right letter, etc. This doesn't help when you are trying to gauge your mastery level. If you are newer to IT and unsure of the material I would skip this. If you have been around a while and can throw your "BS" flag on an erroneous answer then it is probably worth it just to drill. There are a lot of example logs/vulnerability reports to look at.If you are studying for the CySA check out the Jason Dion course on udemy. It is excellent and includes a practice exam.My experience level: 7 years in IT and I have Net+, Sec+, ITIL, and more.

Great resource for the exam and additional knowledge
I found this book to be very helpful in passing the exam (I used another book for reading). No book is perfect but I gave it a 5 because it goes above and beyond the exam. The questions provide references to tools and processes not covered on the exam but help for the real world. I believe the book should be titled with "CySA+ Exam Practice Questions and Beyond" to give the potential purchaser a better idea of what they are buying. I didn't give it a 4 because no book is perfect and I'm not going to ding it on little typos.

Always buy the practice test book
Bought this to study for the CySA+-002 beta exam and its thorough. I always trust Mike Chaple with my CompTIA studying. He hasn’t failed me yet.Well written, book has many questions that seem like they’re mis-written but then after some thought you see what they’re going for and it’s these questions that get you into the mentality for CompTIA test and the TRUE VALUE of this book.

A poorly thought-out book that requires too much work to use effectively
The book is essentially a collection of questions that may or may not be representative of the CySA+ exam. It pays lipservice to the idea of preparation for the exam, but stops short of making any effort to make that easier for the user. The beginning of the book contains advice on how to use it. It advises that you first complete Practice Test 1 and then revisit the sample question areas for the parts with which you had the most trouble, but it offers no assistance in linking your problem questions with areas of the book. You would expect a section at the back that takes categorises the practice test questions and separately categorises the sample questions, so that you can then take the categorisations of your problem questions and draw a list of sample questions to go and revise. Instead, the book simply contains a standard index of terms, which directs you to pages instead of question numbers. That's almost useless. This book would be better as a set of well-organised A4 sheets. They could have dispensed with the cost of binding the thing and put that money into actually thinking about the contents.

Good book - a bit soft
I passed the exam using this book, the companion study guide, and three years of OTJ experience. This book is certainly good practice, but the questions seem a bit easier than what I experienced on the exam. The log and scan result reviews particularly require more analysis on the exam than the questions here. If your foundation is strong, no problem. If you're short on experience, this could be an issue.

Excellent practice
This is the second CompTIA study aid I have reviewed. The first was the Project Study Guide Exam PK0-004, and reasonably recent project management experience meant that I could do a fairly informed view of it.I’m more out of my depth with this one, as my last involvement in IT security per se was 30 years ago (when I did the CISA qualification). My approach was to sample some questions, preferably the less technical ones, and see how I got on. I got about half right – some way to go if I wanted to become a cybersecurity analyst! Many of the questions are over my head, but overall the book looks like a thoroughly professional job.Several of the questions are based on screenshots, which I assume is similar to the exam itself. I have to assume that the book covers all the exam topics. Impressively, a quarter of the book consists of the explanations of the correct answers, which will be very useful for keeping students on track. Some of the business-related questions are applicable only in a US context, but if you need a qualification which happens to be US-biased that’s the way it is, as I found when doing CISA long ago.)The book tells you how to get up to $35 worth of exam vouchers, but I didn’t check if this works when buying from the UK.I was able to register easily for the on-line version, after a slight hiccup before realising that I had to go in via the account I created last year for the previous CompTIA book I reviewed. The content is the same as the book; as you have three page loads per question (submit/feedback/next) it is quicker to use the book version. There is a resources link, but it doesn’t seem to do a lot.

Thorough Book Let Down By Poor Quality Paper and Print
For anyone working in the IT business, this topic is top of this list (and if it isn't, your management needs to wake up). Gone are the days of a bit of firewall configuration, lower privilege accounts, a virus scanner here, malware detection there, the situation is a nightmare. Most of the companies who are attacked have probably been vulnerable and breached months before they know it because detecting threats on modern networks is a difficult task.Often panic sets in and salesmen put out their best scare stories and if you are not careful, you will be shelling out hundreds of thousands of pounds because the enterprise solutions are not cheap. First step therefore is to get to know the environment and getting more skill in Cyber Security is a must. This book is part of that but it has no instruction in it - they aren't claiming to have that - so you will need the text books first. You get about 300 pages of multiple choice questions which will be a familiar style for IT personnel. My gripe with the book is that the paper quality is really poor. The issue there is that there are a generous sprinkling of screen shots in the questions and they look fuzzy to me.Unlike many of the review books we request on Vine, this is not an advanced reader copy which if you have not seen one tends to include print errors and lower quality than the version that goes to market.
