TROPICA - Sensitive Briar 'Pink Sparkles' (Mimosa nuttallii) - 30 SeedsWorth knowing: This very large-flowered mimosa clearly is a more robust species of sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica) and does fold up its leaves when touched. Its candy-pink coloured flowers appear in August and September. The plant is heat-tolerant, loves direct sun and is best positioned in a window facing west or south. Fully matured it reaches heights between 25 to 30 cm representing a change when planted in flower borders or in a pot on the summer porch. Especially kids do love the plant, because it doesn't get tired after being touched many times, but keeps on growing strongly. Origin: The mimosa is indigenous to Brazil, but can be found in Africa as well. Propagation: Leave the seeds to soak in water at room temperature overnight and sprinkle them on moist cultivation soil afterwards. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. Germination often starts already after 1 week. Place / Light: The mimosa prefers bright places and can be moved in a sheltered outdoor position during summer.Care: The young seedlings are very sensitive to draught. Since they have very delicate roots, you should wait at least 6 weeks before transplanting the seedlings. Water evenly and fertilize the plant every 3 weeks from April until September. Three to four plants can be planted together in one pot if you like. Winter period: The mimosa is not annual, as is often reported. Simply overwinter the plant by pruning it down to 15 to 20 in height. The plant sheds its leaves and should only be watered so much that the soil does not dry out. Place in a cool position during winter (5° to 15°C) and move the plant in a warmer spot from March on. Bonsai Suitability: No
