Essential Spanish in 2 hours with Paul Noble: Your key to language success with the bestselling language coach

My dad has been going to Spain around 4-6 times a year for over 30 years, but has never learned a word of Spanish - instead relying on other people to help him (occasionally including me!) This year he mentioned in passing that he thought it was time he finally learned some Spanish but didn't know where to start. So, I I immediately did some research and saw that this cd had good reviews, so I bought it for my dad to listen to in the car. Now while I thought it was worth a try, I honestly didn't expect much or in fact for my dad to listen to the whole cd! So, imagine my surprise when a few weeks later he starts asking me questions... in Spanish! And he understood my replies! Now granted, what he's learnt is basic, but im so pleased that he's finally learnt as much as he has. He said its been painless and listening to this cd in the car has required little effort on his part, which was exactly what was needed here. This is a great introduction to Spanish and I'd definitely recommend it as a starting point for the basics.

Having used the BBC Talk Italian course earlier this year for a trip to a non-tourist part of Italy, I decided to improve my Spanish. Having been to Spain a number of times, I have acquired a basic knowledge of a few Spanish words and phrases but wanted to learn more. Unfortunately, due to the length of the introduction and the amount of repetition involved, the 2 hours on the CD don't include nearly enough Spanish phrases. Also, I find there is little logic in the running order. I would have assumed that greetings etc would be the starting point for the CD as they were on the Italian disc, but was surprised that the first thing to learn is 'I have visited Madrid'.In essence, a huge disappointment and not suited to my learning.Having listened to it a couple of times, I realise that the main aim is to teach how to construct sentences in Spanish and I was certainly able to do this. I will need to increase my vocabulary elsewhere, however, in order to use it.

Same teaching method as a language laboratory. Very effective but limited to 2 hours means limited coverage : booking a hotel room, reserving a table, ordering food and drink. Ignore comments about too much repetition - that is why it works.

Excellent for an introduction to holiday Spanish. Great for some in car talking to yourself action. It did come in handy on holiday for asking for a table.

Brilliant reaching aid. Straight away we are learning useful Spanish and able to speak in a past tense for the first time. Highly recommended.

Ideal quick initiation to Spanish or a quick refresher for beginners. Would recommend as a start.

Not as expected, not what I was hoping for sentence too long to catch before moving to next on. Not for me.
