... basics of Russian and I will say it is excellent. It is well laid out and quite easy ...
Well I have used this book to learn me the basics of Russian and I will say it is excellent. It is well laid out and quite easy to understand. Nothing technical in it to muddle you up. I have went from nothing to knowing what I wanted to within a few months, only spending the odd hour here and there learning it. Thankyou.

Highly suggest
For a basic understanding and a starting off point to the russian language i highly suggest this book to familiarise yourself with the Cyrillic script. Clearly and simple lay out with module's to follow to test your knowledge. For those starting out i would highly suggest

Teach Yourself has improved!
Normally, I find the Teach Yourself series of books to be as dry as the Sahara! This one is fun! Working my way through it as best I can. Already familiar with most of the letters though. What's good is the little boxes with Russian expressions, proverbs and so forth. One I can relate to on a literal level, in that I know it to be true more often than not "The first pancake always comes out like a blob"!; the equivalent of "practice makes perfect".It is certainly less 'dry' than one I encountered in my local library. if i had to use that one, I'd have thrown in the towel!

A really helpful book. Recommended (even for a short trip)
A really helpful book for getting to grips with the Russian alphabet. I used it myself before moving to Russia and usually recommend it to my visitors. It's worth being able to read basic Russian script if you're coming to Russia, even if it's just for a short trip - it makes life a lot easier here.

useful and fun
This book is excellent for a beginner and written in an engaging, clear style. I found it really helpful, but you'll need to invest a few hours in really getting to grips with the information and learning it.

Russki
quite easy to follow, gradual intro to letters and alphabet in Russian with simple accompanying exercises. Would recommend if you have very little knowledge of subject.

Very helpful for acquiring reading and writing skills quickly when you do not have time/money to go to a proper course
Being a complete beginner in learning Russian I found the book very helpful to learn reading and writing Cyrillic and to get first glimpses into Russian culture. I used it in preparation for starting a proper self-study Russian programme, and after completing the book within a very short time I find reading Cyrillic almost as natural as the Latin script used in English.

Learn the Cyrillic Alphabet in Four Hours or Less
By the end of chapter 4 (page 44) I had learned the sounds of all the Cyrillic letters. This took less than four (non-consecutive) hours of practice and it wasn't painstaking in the least. The book has also taught me a very small bit of Russian vocabulary and I'm not even half way through it yet. This was a great purchase and will make the language learning program I've got much easier to use. I wish I had have started with this book first as it would have saved me some frustration.

Excellent introduction to reading & writing Russian script
When I received this book and flipped through it, I thought that I had made an error in choosing to purchase this title. But, I was very mistaken. I am so pleased with this book, I had been using Rosetta Stone and felt that I needed to learn the Russian alphabet which wasn’t taught in a direct manner that I found satisfactory. The Russian alphabet is taught through vocabulary words, and Russian script is not taught in a step by step manner. I did not like that about Rosetta Stone. This text with easy entertaining lessons filled in all the gaps left by Rosetta Stone. I am very, very pleased with this book! Спасибо!!

Five Stars
Already an aid in not only writng, but reading Russian. I don't care for neocon usA propaganda, too militaristic.

Excellent merchant. The book is about as expected.
The book is very good. I think that the first 5 or 6 chapters could have been longer with more drills.

Not about actual cursive script at all.
I thought this would help me with learning how write Russian cursive script. There is none of that in this book. It is a simple general book about Russian grammar in PRINTED text, not handwritten cursive script. The title of this book is completely misleading about its contents.
