Resolved new broadband issue
Changed broadband provider and my windows 10 computer wasn't picking up WiFi - everything else did - this resolved the issue - unfortunately it was a bit beyond me and had to get my youngest to sort so am unable to advise what he did - sorry .

TP-Link TL-WN823N Mini USB WiFi Adapter
I bought this for my 10 year old laptop which still has plenty of life left. I predominantly use Linux and until recently the internal Broadcom WiFi chip has not been a problem; it still works with older versions of Mint, Ubuntu and Debian but not with newer versions. It also works with Windows 10 & 11.The TL-WN823N works faultlessly with Linux Mint 22 using the 6.8.0-60 Kernel. It was recognised automatically by the installer so no need to go searching for a driver (TP Link provide info for a Linux driver but I didn't need to use it).

Not quite there.
Used this for an HP Stream on which the wi-fi card was no longer detectable. This was detected straight away in Linux mint and was very easy to install and had obviously good driver support.I've taken a mark off however, as the range was very poor and I couldn't get full signal even with it right beside the router. Further from the router and signal plummeted. It worked for what I wanted, but I can't see it doing HD video. Maybe I had a duff unit, but I honestly think that given the size, it will always struggle.I've a 300mb mesh system, which doesn't struggle with anything else and which my phone can stay connected to about 20m down my street.

It works ok...avoid cheap generic badge-branded
Works fine without hiccup, unlike generic badge-branded dongles (you know the ones, weird almost-Chinese-sounding brands you've never heard of before) which are hit and miss if they work at all, I've fallen into that rip-off trap more than once.Seems like I need new WiFi dongles every time Windows goes up a number...the whole industry must be in cahoots, making you buy new kit by not supporting the previous model with new OS releases. But at least most new kit, like this, is backwards compatible with previous OS releases. Just not future proof! Easy to plug and install, you need a CD rom, else download the drivers...which is daft if you can't get connected to do so ... If using with a WiFi hotspot generated by your mobile phone it doesn't always connect, needing pc reboot after all power off at wall socket to clear faulty cached settings, and a mobile phone total reboot too, this will clear any cache settings across all devices, but is a nuisance when you have to do it every time. But at least you can then use 4/5G data for pc internet instead of having to buy broadband as well.

network speed
Very good, my internet is back! The network speed is very fast.

Cheap for a reason
This is a cheap option for a reason. Even after installing and reinstalling drivers, it regularly disconnects from the wifi network, or my PC as a whole. It now caused two separate BSODs (and counting). If by some miracle it decides to work for a long enough period to actually do something, it gets very hot and can overheat which means (you guessed it) it disconnects from the wifi network, my PC, or both!Just spend a bit more and get a better product.
