Pema Chödrön's Compassion Cards: Teachings for Awakening the Heart in Everyday Life

Great companion to Start Where You Are, but confusing if purchased alone
I initially purchased the compassion cards by Pema Chodron as a stand alone, and found myself googling most of the phrases used on the cards despite each card having separate commentary. Please note that each teaching is taken from Lojong, or mind training, from Tibetan Buddhism. They can be somewhat cryptic. I recommend purchasing the Compassion Cards with Pema's book Start Where You Are or after reading it. My general practice is to select a compassion card, read the commentary on the back of the card, and then look for that saying in Start Where You Are and read more in depth. Some cards are self-explanatory (i.e. be grateful to everyone) but some are just plain confusing to anyone new to Buddhism (i.e. Regard all dharma as dreams). Still, for anyone interested in Buddhism, or want to add extra spiritual practice to something you already do, I find these to be a good companion. One final note: The card "stand" is just a small piece of very thin cardboard, and it fell apart after a few uses. However, it doesn't take a genius to fashion a card stand of your own from whatever is lying around (or, just prop it up on some books if you want to).

Great Quotes to Ponder Over Daily
I read some of the reviews and wondered if the good reviews were over exaggerating the product. It has been more than a few weeks and the more I use it, the more I enjoy the cards. For $11+ it was money well spent. The card stand seems to be made of the same material as the cards. The quality of the card is good. Behind each card is a commentary to explain what each quote means. Some quotes are longer, some are short. You won't know what to expect each day.

Not recomended
I'm afraid I didn't like them at all and here are the reasons:- Design is ugly- There are spelling errors on the cards - how difficult is it to spell check something that contains so little text?- Production is cheapThe slogans are beautiful and extremely useful but the commentary is not worth the money. Pema is a wondeful and skilled teacher but this is not a good product.

I love these cards
I love these cards! Perfect reminder to keep myself connected to my practice. A great companion to Pema's teaching and I also find they help reinforce my readings of Norman Fischer's, "Training in Compassion."Well worth the cost to help remind oneself of being mindful.

A Nudge to an Opened Heart
Would you like to coach yourself to be open to the possibility finding more compassion in your heart? Each day, a different card provides a fresh nudge that you can reflect on throughout the day. Even those nudges that seem out-center have a way of opening another path because you know Pema Chödrön draws her nudge from a deep well of compassion

Wonderful practice cards for the LoJong work.
I have been reading Pema's work for decades. I have done the LoJong practices for many years. This is a wonderful way to remind us of our inner and relationship work and put our practices in the context of the real world - not just private mediation.

Compassion isn't easy
These days, compassion can be a challenge. When I pick a new card in the morning, it gives me time to reflect and set my intention and awareness for the day. Grateful for the wisdom contained here.

Love it!
Oh man, this is a beautiful set. The cards are a nice quality, the box is well made and has a magnetic closure for storage. It even comes with a small stand to display each card.

Believe & it can be ‘Life Changing’............apply yourself 💕
I absolutely love these compassion cards. I’ve turned to training in compassion. We all have the potential to be compassionate to ourselves and to others, However, somewhere along the line we can lose our way, sometimes life experiences unbalance us. We can lose compassion towards ourselves, as sometimes we’re conditioned to believe it’s selfish? Which is not the case in any shape or form!So I highly recommend anyone to use these cards to enable them to build upon their self compassion, and from that, compassion towards all other beings will follow.Be patient. Practice not judging others. All will fall into place, given time.Thank you Pema x

More wisdom from Pema
Full of wisdom and compassion - a tonic for everyday you choose a card. Some of the messages are quite tough to read as they demand that we remain mindful and kind in all our actions, which we are not always able to be. Speaking for myself here.

Beautiful Cards
A beautiful set of cards that have complemented very well my reading of Chodron's teachings. These are lovely to dip into during the day and be reminded of a teaching. They have both inspired and enhanced my practice.

Love these cards!
I love these cards! Sometimes I'll have the same one up for weeks, and then I'll just randomly pick one for 'advice' if I'm feeling stuck and need to open up my perspective on something. It always works!
