Alder Bag, 20-Pound, Alder Pellets

Wanted a more mild smoke for my elk jerky, aka elk candy. This worked perfect. Best jerky I've ever had. Would recommend this flavor for fish as well.

I order these all the time and love the flavor of the pellets. Because I lived in Alaska, I know alert is great for cooking fish, especially salmon. But on this purchase, the bag had three series of holes in it large enough for pellet leakage. The bag was supposed to be a 20# bag and it weighed in at 19#. That may not seem to be a lot but go price a 1# bag of these beauties! I won't sent it back this time but if it happens again, I'll be asking for a couple pound of replacement pellets.

I had issues when used in my Traeger grill. On the smoke setting they sometimes go out, and on the highest settings they sometimes overload the burning area. The wood pellets are compressed very firmly. The result is hard wood pellets that seem to be more difficult to start burning and burn longer than what the grill is designed for. The smoke is very aromatic and great with salmon. Wish they worked better for me.

I have a Traeger, and I absolutely LOVE it! I have always before bought the official Traeger pellets, but decided to try another brand for a change. I've discovered that my family and I really enjoy the taste of Alder smoke for almost everything. I'm running low on Alder, so it's about time to buy another bag.Just a note: We don't enjoy the flavor when used on vegetables. Prefer apple or cherry.

I love the product but I ordered 2 bags and only one of them was the Alder pellets. The other bag ended up being Mesquite.
