Love this book!
I love David Michie books and this is no exception. The use of animals for their perspective for their innocence and unconditional love is beautiful. This is an easy read and humorous but subtle, deep messages.

A Fitting Name
The corgi in the book is named Nelson. At the time, there was a question as to whether he was named after Admiral Nelson or Nelson Mandela . By the end of the book, you will know !There was not as much philosophy in this book, as the Dalai Lama cat books but I enjoyed it just as much. My parents were both fans of the Queen. Both served in Britain in WW ll, my mother as a Canadian Wren and my father as a Royal Navy Officer and every Christmas, we had to listen to the Queen’s Christmas Message, even though we were living in Montreal, Canada. We were not allowed to open our presents until after she spoke. This book gives lots of insight as to why this was so important to them both. It all has to do with purpose and showing love in many small ways to lots of “ordinary people”.Dr. James Michael Bell, MD.

Delightful story!
This charming story is written from the perspective of a charming little corgi who was born into the misery of being viewed as imperfect and an embarrassment to the lady who breed him. He watched all the other corgis getting lavished with love and praise, and he witnessed all his siblings going off to their new families while he was locked away hidden in the kitchen. He felt the loneliness of isolation and shame of his one droopy ear that refused to stand up. He over- heard the repeated demands of the breeder that her husband take "the puppy" to "the shed" and take care of this immediately. The puppy saw the couple glancing at him. He didn't know what happened in "the shed", but in his brief life he had seen the man take other puppies to the shed at the back of the property. The man always returned alone. One evening, the man slipped off to the pub after another argument between the couple where the lady again demanded her husband take the puppy to the shed that night when he returned from the pub. Through a coincidence at the pub, the puppy came to the attention of Her Majesty from a member of her staff. The staff member was immediately dispatched to rescue the doomed puppy. That is the night he was whisked from the dark shadow of shame, loneliness, and an unfortunate end into a beautiful world of gilded mirrors, light, red carpets, warm beds by the hearth, and that which he most desired, companionship and love. He was delighted with his new mistress who even let him sleep on her bed when he had bad dreams about his former life. He delighted in his new corgi family who taught him the ropes of how to be a royal corgi. He got to greet visitors to the palace, and he got to listen to the wisdom of his new mistress. He gets to listen in on the private conversations between his new mistresses family, and he learned which ones were easily persuaded to slip him a little something tasty under the table! Though he and his corgi family travel with the household staff, they can always hear the motorcade pulling up outside anyone of the castles. They corgis just knew in which car their beloved mistress was riding, and the knew she would greet them enthusiastically. This is such a lovely novel seen from the knee-high view of a royal corgi - on purpose.

entertaining overall
It gets a bit preachy but is entertaining for the most part. Something for a little escapist amusement. A little bit of fun.

I have read all of David’s books dealing with animals/ pets. He has a lovely way of giving pets a voice through their humorous escapades.Looking at life through an animal’s eyes is comforting to me.

very entertaining
The queens Corgis come alive in this sweet story. The book is also informative about the royal household. I enjoyed every minute. If it. I hope to read other books by David Michie, and plan to do so.

A very good read
I enjoyed this book, about and narrated by a corgi. He was flawed, because of a floppy ear, and was unwanted. His life was changed forever after he became the Queen's corgi. The characters, including three corgis , were interesting because they were real . I liked the way that humour was blended with philosophy.

You'll love him.
This book is a must if you want cheered up, the Corgi will come into your heart and the writing is exquisite. Feel good factor and thought provoking. Good advice for life in general. Must admit though the Dalai Lama's Cat is better - written by the same author, but buy both though.

Great story
Great story especially as we have a new Welsh Corgi puppy in the family.Liked the underlying thoughts on purpose, why are we here? and how we make the most of our lives, in a caring and loving way very interesting and sensitively told.

Enjoyable read.
Following on from his other books, I found this insightful into the hidden meanings behind the Queens Corgi antics & observations. Perhaps I was expecting too much after having read all the Dalai Lama's Cat series which I devoured. None the less it was enjoyable & worthy of recommendation.

If you have read The Dalai Lama's Cat this will be a great disappointment.
Nothing new in it. Just adapting to a dog's view the life of the Queen and her family. Very disappointing from David Michie. Seems like it was written just to cash on on his earlier books.
