Installation takes some effort
First, this switch is intended for SPT-2 lamp cord. If you don’t know what that is, Google it. Second, make sure that the end of the cord is pushed firmly all the way in to the slot before you close it. Third, make sure the cord doesn’t slip out even a little bit when you do close it. Finally, closing it takes some effort - I had to place it on the bench and press down hard on the tab with the back end of a screwdriver. With all that said, it seems to work OK with both incandescent bulbs and dimmable LEDs, just like the description says. I dinged it one star only because it is a minor beach to install.

This was the most difficult electrical device I've ever installed.
It is an inline on/off and dimmer switch. It required new wire at additional expense. And the minimal instructions were little help.

Difficult to install
This switch uses a wire tap that pierces the insulation of the lamp cord when you close the clamp. The instructions are not clear where the proper placement of the cord is, and if you get it wrong, opening the clamp is a real pain. It takes a great deal of force to clamp the wire correctly. Instructions are lousy. 2 stars.About 5% of all reviews are a one star because the product they received was poor quality, or they did not get it all and the consumer is just mad. I don’t believe 5% of every product made goes out useless, but everyone who gets a bad unit will tell you. About 90% of reviewers start at 5 stars, and if the reviewer did not find anything heinous about the product, that’s what they give. To 90% of people, 5 stars means, “it was just ok.”.My reviews start from the middle. Three stars: the product met my expectations. Four stars, the product exceeded my expectations for quality, value, or performance. Five stars, the item got itself out of the box itself and walked across the water. Two stars, it failed to meet my expectations in some way. Anything deserving the ignominious one-star review either went back to the vendor or in the dumpster.

Simple idea that works
My wife bought this hanging fixture for our lanai. It needed a dimmer as it just had an on off switch. This little switch did the trick. The dimmer works great. My only reason for not rating it higher is the install and instructions were confusing. That and the triangular screw heads... I used a small torx that fit. Other reviews helped me complete the job. It's actually simple once you think it through.

Too easy to install!!
This thing was cool! I had a bad dimmer switch that I had fooled with. Ordered this switch, cot out the old switch, followed the instructions and in 2 minutes I had a working salt lamp again! 1st. thing I've been impressed with in a while!

Dimmer does NOT go all the way to "off"
I Had some trouble getting the points to make contact with the wire inside of the insulation. However, the biggest problem was that it didn't dim all the way to "off." With the slider all the way down, the lamp still glows. I replaced it with a different switch.

Good Product
This dimmer switch was perfect for our application that required a dimmer installed in the power cord. A 5 minute install and working great.
