What is Obscenity?: The Story of a Good For Nothing Artist and her Pussy Paperback – Abridged, May 10, 2016

Rokudenashiko has written and drawn a very personal account of her experiences with life, art, and the Japanese legal system. She bravely reveals how she got to where she is today, and it makes for very interesting reading. She's quite naïve at the beginning, but learns how things work, and how messed up a culture can be about a basic fact of life.The book was originally written in Japanese, and the Japanese right-to-left reading pattern is preserved. While I can't vouch for the exact accuracy of the translation, since I don't read or speak Japanese, I can say that it is well-written, with excellent grammar and spelling, two things not always found in manga translations, or scanlations as they're sometimes called. The English is modern and mature, and expresses the story and its related emotions very well.If you're interested in art, manga, or modern Japanese society, I recommend this book for you.

Rokudenashiko's graphic memoir examines what happens when she is arrested in Japan for obsenity because the art she makes features "manko" or pussy. There are manga/comic sections devoted to her two arrests, how she became a manko artist, and my favorite - a full-color section in which the manko takes over and explores its own role. These sections are are interspersed with facts about her arrests and Japanese culture, an interview with Roudenashiko, and full-color spreads of Rokudenashiko's manko art. This is an important book, especially in today's political climate, that I highly recommend.

Inspiring story of an artist who stood up for what she believed in. If you're not familiar with Rokudenashiko's art, this is a great introduction. If you are familiar, this book offers a touching backstory. Good pacing that bounces back and forth between the serialized manga and detailed explanations. Quick and touching read. I just wish there was a digital edition!

I hope someone makes a documentary because this is an unbelievable and awesome story

Fun book about a real story of an artist in Japan. book came in great shape

A very funny comic about an artist arrested for creating cute pussyart. It has some helpful, interesting pages with quotes from Rokudenashiko's solicitor, her peers, and explanations of references, and laws and societal norms of Japan. A fun, informative read. I love the art, the expressions are so cute.

Comment en 2016 et au Japon pourtant célèbre pour ses extremes notamment en matière de pornographie, un mot/partie du corps féminin peut il/elle encore etre completement tabou, comment on peut mettre une personne en prison pour la distribution d un plan pr objet 3D dérivé de son moulage? Et comment cela a été médiatisé mondialement. Le livre raconte cette mésaventure en manga anglais traduit du japonais, sens de lecture original, avec quelques passages écrits qui citent avocats ou connaissances. C'est drôle et interessant, je recommande
