Do NOT purchase this book! If I could give zero stars, I would. The translation is terrible! I have included some samples by just randomly opening the book and taking pics so you can see how horrible the translation is (if you're bilingual).I'm married to someone who only speaks English, so I bought one for us both to enjoy, and oh, I bought one for my cousin too. Well shame on me, I should have looked at the reviews but I didn't and fell for this thing that can't be called anything other than a scam.Thank goodness for Amazon return policy, as both copies are getting returned. I can't put into words just how embarrassed I am to have given this book to anyone as a gift.They translate «زاهد» (a pious person) as "zahed" which is simply a phenetic spelling of the Farsi word with latin alphabet.It really feels like they just put the whole thing into google translate, and then published it. Shameful.

OMG the translations are awful. This book will make your yalda miserable. We were excited to have a bilingual Hafiz book for this important holiday. It was a big let down for anyone who only could read the English translations.

I dont like that the poem titles are not translated in english

The binding is little weaker than it should be, easily split in the middle

The Diwan-e Hafez, a classic of Persian literature, a book of poems masterfully and expertly written... and very weirdly laid-out?Now, the translation is taken directly from Henry Wilberforce Clarke, however, the good Lieutenant Colonel H. W. Clarke's comments and non-literal additions to the translation, which render the text understandable to an English reader, have not been included.H.W. Clarke's translation of part of the first ghazal reads thus:"Ho! O Sāḳī, pass around and offer the bowl (of love for God)ːFor (the burden of) love (for God) at first (on the day of covenant) appeared easy, but (now) difficulties have occurred.By reason of the perfume (hope) of the musk-pod, that, at the end (of night), the breeze displayeth from that (knotted) fore-lock—From the twist of its musky (dark, fragrant) curl, what blood (of grief) befell the hearts (of the lovers of God)ǃ"In itself, this passage is very confusingly translated, but this here book did away with the remarks in the parentheses, and printedː"Hoǃ O Saki, pass around and offer the bowlFor love at first appeared easy, but difficulties have occurred.By reason of the perfume of the musk-pod, that, at the end, the breeze displayeth fromFrom the twist of its musky curl, what blood befell the heartsǃ that fore-lock,"Yes, the last two words should actually be part of the previous line, but somebody was unable to format and edit properly.I was initially excited to have found a true bilingual version of the Divan-e Hafez, but this book is a far cry from a joy to read.I am heavily disappointed.

Book came in great condition, and it was exactly what I wanted, finally I can read Hafez translated into english

Big clumsy book. Translation into English very bad. Seems oldfashioned and not poetic at all. Item only useful as doorstop.
