My mentor gave me my first stethoscope (a red Cardio III) after my white coat ceremony. I used it for 13 years and then, for the first time ever, left it behind in a patient room during a bedside procedure. I went back later that day and the stethoscope was gone. A trusted memento I used to get through med school, residency, and fellowship, no longer straddling my neck.After about a week of searching, I decided it was time to invest in a new one. Initially, I was debating whether to go with the sound amplification one I see my student’s where, but I felt nostalgic. I got an all black stethoscope with a red trim (in memory of its predecessor). The cardio IV has served me well in this period and I can see myself using this for years to come.

If you are in clinical rotations or preparing for them, or you expect to see a wide range of patients within your practice; this is the stethoscope that will cover all of your needs. It works as a conventional stethoscope, a peds stethoscope, and great for cardiology. The downside to this stethoscope is its weight: it weighs more than others due to the material used. But the material used allows for better performance in cardiology and peds. So, you will have to take the weight, but you will have a one stethoscope answer to fit all of your needs. Also, read the instruction prior to use. It will help you switch from peds to cardio quickly and easily. Hope this review helps.

Good quality

Littmann's Cardiology 4 remains one of the best stethoscopes available. I note that despite the use of a softer material for the tube, the sound quality remains exceptional. I hope that it will hold up well to time. The device is lightweight and looks good with the red accent. My only disappointment is that the Lithmanns service does not allow for customisation.Looking forward to many years of service with my 4th scope in 20 years.

I upgraded from my Littmann Classic III to the Cardiology IV….and WOW! The difference in quality sound! I didn’t have a lot of trouble with my old model, but I haven’t had an issue yet with this new stethescope! I’m happy that I made the upgrade, and knowing the quality of Littmann’s, I know I won’t have to replace it for many years to come.
