One of the best tools in my crafting room because of the push down center grip and metal edge
This has become of of my all time favorite crafting tool in my craft room. I often use rulers to center things and get straight lines....but I really love this ruler with the metal edge. I can even tear paper with it and get a nice straight edge. The centering tool is great too...although it is super super tiny and hard to see (had to use reading like glasses at the dollar store to see the marking more easily)....but it is helpful to use when you need something centered. I do love that feature. But the best feature is the push down center where it has a rubber grip on the bottom so that once you press down, your paper won't shift, and you can get a perfect line every time. It also is great if you are using it with a crafting knife...not only does the metal edge work great with this, but with the push down center, not only will it keep your paper from shifting, but it keeps your fingers up and away from the blade. It really is one of the best tools in my craft room and I would really recommend this to any crafter...especially if you use crafting knifes for straight edges.

Great tool...takes a little practice, but then it is great.
THis is a great way to get perfect borders on straight pieces. I used it on heavy cardstock...at 1/8th of an inch, and it worked beautifully. But then I decided to take that same piece and make it a 1/16th of a border, and it worked super well...even though it was a smaller piece by now. However, when I went to a little thinner cardstock....like others...I did have a hard time occasionally with the ruler catching the edge of the paper. I ran my finger nail under the paper to raise it just a bit..and that fixed the problem. It worked well. Tried it with a post-a-note paper...and the same thing...worked okay on 1 side, but the other 3 it had a hard time finding the edge...so I lifted it up with my finger nail, and then it worked find. So a little practice and it will be your favorite took for matting pictures/sayings, etc. I really think it will be a tool I turn to often, rather than do the math to figure out how much to add and then try to center it. With this...it is centered perfectly every time because you adhere it down first, then cut around it :)

Absolute genius
This is a brilliant idea. For those who struggle with lining up mats, lay your picture down, select the width border, snap into place and use your exacto knife for perfect borders. Fair warning...it takes practice. You have to have a very steady hand and keep the blade exactly on the edge. A few of the lines/settings also seem not to "catch" the lip of the paper, but when this works it's genius.I revised this down to a four because the issue of it not catching has continued to be problematic. Honestly, all they had to do what make the channel to catch the paper deeper. Great idea but needs to be better executed.

Great paper-crafting tool
This is an excellent ruler that truly does keep your paper aligned and precisely where you want it once you press the No-Slip Grip bar down. It performs exactly as described for that function. I do a LOT of cutting with an X-acto knife and this has improved my accuracy greatly. The metal edge is absolutely flush with the table surface and this feature eliminates the shadow you can get from a cork-backed metal ruler. It also makes tearing paper to get a ragged edge a breeze.I took away one star because the clear edge marked in centimeters is also supposed to be a centering ruler. While the ruler is marked for that purpose, the numbers are so tiny as to be virtually unreadable. I'll stick with my Tim Holz ruler for that purpose.

I am delighted with this product
I am delighted with this product. My problem has been centering a layer on top of another. It's easy to cut accurate layers but I could just not get the top layer centered. With this product you apply the top layer and then use the rulers to cut around the piece. I read that some had trouble catching the edge of the ruler on their paper. I resolved this with a piece of tape by post-it. It comes in one inch width. It is bright blue and bright yellow. It does not leave a residue on paper or photographs. By applying it right along the edge of the top layer of paper it gives just enough lift to catch the ruler firmly so you get perfect cuts every time. A nice sharp xacto blade helps too. Really pleased with the pictures I have matted today.

RULER LOCKS IN PLACE - ACCURATE CUTS EVERY TIME!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
This ruler is GREAT!!! It is slightly heavier than a typical 12" metal ruler, with a mechanism in the middle you lightly push down that "locks" the paper from moving (the orange plastic that goes the length of the ruler, see product photo). I no longer need to worry about the ruler slipping while I'm cutting with an x-acto knife! This works very well on all kinds of paper and card stock. I was very impressed with how easy this ruler enabled me to accurately cut cellophane and polypropylene!! These are very slippery products and it always was very difficult to keep a ruler from slipping while cutting. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT for anyone who does a lot of straight edge hand cutting with an x-acto knife. This has really been a time saver for me. I only wish this ruler came in a larger 18" or 24" length size!!

card matting tool
Guess I didn't really do my research thoroughly enough because I didn't realize or it didn't dawn on me that this matting process works in reverse, if you will.I start my cards from the base and work my way up to the top. With this tool you have to know what your top is going to be in exact size then work your way down from that to the base. At first was difficult for me to reverse the process, as I don't always know exactly what I am going to do with the card when I start, such as ..will I put two mats or three etc. but am getting use to it.The tool does a wonderful job of making the perfect borders. Sturdy not flimsy.
