Vinyl LP pressing. Digitally re-mastered edition of the 1984 debut album from the legendary British quartet. Arriving in an era dominated by Synthpop and gloomy Post-Punk, the Smith's eponymous debut was the beginning of a new era. Johnny Marr's inventive songwriting and ringing guitars were catchy and melodic and were made all the more original by Morrissey's vocal style and lyrics. Although The Smiths continued to improve over the course of their career, the songs here are vital and alive, making sure that their debut remains startling and exciting to this day.

Every Lyric Is Someone's Life
I was introduced to the Smiths in college. A college friend sold me a newly bought "Meat Is Murder" cassette tape for a cheap price because he doesn't like it (he loves the "Hatful of Hollow" album though). During that time I'm completely ignorant of punk, post punk, new wave, alternative rock and the likes 'cause I'm from a rural town and what we dig there are seventies hard rock like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, NWOBHM like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, while my most favorite is the psychedelic band, Pink Floyd, ever since I heard "The Dark Side of the Moon" tape. I was really stunned listening to the tape - what a great band! This is the music I want to hear! Then, when I read the lyric sheet (great it was inside the tape sleeve) I went completely nuts. Every lyric is someone's life. I may or may not agree with the contents or messages but they were so beautifully written. A poetry in song. Bob Dylan is a great lyricist but Morrissey is pop's William Shakespeare. So, I also bought this album and Hatful of Hollow and together they helped me sustain a lonely solitary college life (I'm the only one among our group with no girlfriend - I'm absolutely that boy in "Girl Afraid"). From then on, the Smiths became my most favorite band alongside Pink Floyd. Every other band shall stay in the backseat, even Slayer and I.O.V.
