Twisty ending
Don't think you know who did it, too many red herrings to count. Very enjoyable read and many great philosophical mutterings.

a long introduction
It took me a very long time to “get into” this book. Maybe there is such a thing as too many Agatha Christie (when that is nearly all one is reading and pretty quickly as well). However, things get more interesting when Hercule arrives on the scene and the last bit is very good and satisfactory endings all around. May read a few books by other authors in the next few weeks. Just for a wee break

Good read; download a sample first
The novel was great, as usual for Agatha Christie. However, this Kindle version was extraordinarily frustrating to read, as almost all punctuation appeared as a series of coding symbols and letters! I figured out which 4 symbols represented an open quote, which a close quote, which a dash. It really slowed my reading time, but I stuck it out. I hope the book is fixed for future readers. You may want to download a sample before purchasing. The book itself was good. As usual, I could not guess "who done it," and thoroughly enjoyed the journey and ending. A few bits are maddeningly old fashioned as far as gender roles are concerned, but I can give them a pass based on the time period the book was written in. I took a star away for the above mentioned Kindle punctuation issues.

Mediocre unlike the excellent TV adaptation
The TV adaptation of this story starring David Suchet is in my opinion, the greatest Poirot mystery on film and one which really adds an emotional core to a story which is ultimately very positive in its affirmation of the value of human life.Imagine my disappointment on finding that the book it was based on, is just a generic who-done-it with a comparatively flat and unsatisfying ending. This book made me sad.Watch the David Suchet TV version which is in Agatha Christie's Poirot: Season 10 EP 4. Like Blade Runner, this is a rare case of the film being better than the book it was based upon.

Well
This one definitely had some twisty turns. Poirot did a good job. I was intrigued by Lynn, the returning WREN. I think it made it particularly interesting.

Typical Christie mystery
Convoluted story without much character development. Strange last chapter.

Another Success
Dame Agatha seldom disappoints and although this novel is not in her top tier, it is very good. Set primarily in an English village just after the Second World War, it highlights the dislocation caused by the war for both those who served and those who did not. The Cloade Family has special problems. They had long relied on the one rich family member for help, but he married and was killed in an air raid. Now his young widow has a life estate and the Cloades have nothing as long as she lives. The author makes the most of this perilous state of affairs with a series of mysteries and surprises seasoned with wit. There is too much reliance on coincidence, the characters are stereotypical and the unnecessary last chapter is nonsensical, but none of this measurably subtracts from the delightful reading experience provided here.

Strong Plot.
This is quite an interesting novel because of the period it is set in. Immediately after the second world war. I must confess it is not one of my favourite books, perhaps because there is very little in the way of Christie's usual humour in it. Nevertheless, social commentary is well to the fore and even if some of the norms then would raise more than a few eyebrows today it is worth a listen. Others of Christie's works stand the test of time better than this one does, however it does have a strong plot. And if you can get over what seem to have been the accepted standards in prospective husbands back in the day, quite enjoyable.

Very poor
Very poor for Agatha Christie. Stupid plot and stilted dialogue. The Kindle version is terribly presented. New paragraph almost every sentence and often half way through a sentence. Not up to standard and not worth the money

Book
Book looks lovely but reading it, to me is not easy, as writing is too close and gaps between lines is too small , this makes my eyes tired very quickly, so I will not be ordering from this company any more.

Good use made of Julius Caesar!
Very good. Ingenious plot. Believable characters. She keeps us guessing until the end. I'm inclined to think she hadn't decided on the murderer until she wrote it down. Last chapter a bit too twee.

Interesting characters
The puppetmaster moves around her characters and misleads as ever, and the conclusion has more than one surprise.Recommended
