Excellent budget choice for road trippers
Bought this box (XL) for 3000 mile road trip. It did exceptionally well and survived extreme rain, extreme heat and wind under full load conditions. Definitely would recommend. A piece of advice (not this box specific, but in general) - have a ladder handy because loading and unloading this on an SUV is challenging.Pros:- size - we were able to fit 2 full suitcases, 1 carry-on and a bunch of sleeping bags, smaller bags etc- durability (survived 3000 mile road trip going from southern US to the lakes and back). We went through a couple of very heavy storms - the box did great, no leakage inside)- aerodynamic - only minor effect on our MPGCons - these are not really cons, but more of concerns that we had before the trip, however the box survived well despite them- Installation was ok, but our crossbars were too wide for it so I had to drill additional holes for the brackets.- only one lock in the back of the box, I wish it had additional clamps or straps. I've seen people on the road wrapping this exact box with a strap. Although we didn't need this on our trip, I will incorporate this for future.- feels a little flimsy, but again it didn't affect the performance. Getting large suitcases out of it was tricky as resting them on the side of the box bent it a little.

Great Cargo Box for our 2200 mile Adventure
We bought this to use on my 2017 Subaru Outback for our 2200 mile, 4 day road trip when we recently moved from CA to IL. It was easy to install, and fit on the crossbars perfectly. It was fairly lightweight too. I drove with it on my car for about 3 weeks while it was empty, prior to our trip, even though I know I wasn't supposed to, and it was fine (all local roads, no highways though). It held all 3 of our suitcases plus some pillows and blankets. It was a huge help for storage during the drive since my car was packed, as I had two 30 inch pet cages in the back with our 4 cats in them. We moved in December, so we were bound to encounter some sort of weather, and boy did we! On day 3 of our drive we were headed into a huge snow storm that spanned about 600 miles, which was to be our whole trip for that day. We wound up going north and out of our way to avoid driving in the snow storm all day, but we still drove in it for about 6 hours. It held up great, and the inside stayed dry even though the outside did get a good amount of snow and ice on it. There were a few hours where the roads made the drive really bumpy due to all of the ice and snow covering the ground, and it didn't budge or loosen up at all (we checked to ensure it was still secure every night when we stopped at our hotels).I was averaging driving about 65 - 74 mph during the entire trip, and it didn't seem to be a problem. My husband was driving his car behind me the whole time, and he said when I went over about 75 mph he noticed that it would shake and bounce around more, so I tried to stay below that (but honestly I went up to 80 mph at times when passing a truck for example). I noticed that on the 2 lane highways whenever a semi truck would pass me going the opposite way, my whole car would shake and I was really worried that the lock would break or that the cargo box would go flying off my car, but it held up great and did it's job. I would often slide the cover for my sun roof open so that I could check on it and see the bottom of the cargo box from through the glass, and I noticed that it would bounce slightly as I was driving from the wind but again I was going about 70 mph most of the time so that was expected, and it didn't cause any problems. I did not notice any wind noise at all, however I did get about 5 mph less average gas mileage than usual. It was very sturdy and got us and all of our stuff to our destination. I am happy to have it now for any future road trips, and would definitely recommend it as an inexpensive, sturdy cargo box.

Plenty of Room, Great for the Price!
I bought this Carrier for my 2015 Volvo VC60 with Factory Crossbars to take on a 600 mile Trip from Indiana to Wisconsin, and I am very happy with it so far. It arrived via scheduled carrier within one week of purchase, and it came in a GIGANTIC box. Consider that a free bonus. Installation was simple, and the directions were easy to follow. The only issue I had was that with my Thule Bike Carrier installed, the Volvo Factory Crossbars were farther apart (Front to Back) than the mounting holes on the bottom of the SportRack, so I just drilled two extra holes in the bottom and it fits fine next to the Bike Carrier. I covered the other unused mounting holes with Gorilla tape to keep water out.Removal is VERY easy, and takes just a few minutes and requires no tools. I found this out very quickly at the Minneapolis St. Paul Airport, where the parking garage clearance is less than 8 feet. Anyway, there are 8 plastic wingnuts with metal inserts that you tighten and loosen by hand. The lock mechanism works fine, and while the carrier feels almost too light and flimsy to be sturdy while open, it stayed locked and waterproof at 70 MPH through a few thunderstorms. I did not notice additional wind noise, and at highway speeds, my fuel efficiency was only 1-2 Miles per gallon lower than usual.Capacity: This thing is huge, and effectively doubles my cargo space. I was able to fit one large "check-in size" piece of luggage, 3 "carry-on" size rolling suitcases, a duffel bag, and several loose items.Rear Loading: This is an advantage that keeps the box closed while driving, but may be a disadvantage for those without a long reach. I used a small step stool (there's room for it in the carrier!) to avoid having to climb onto the top of my car, and it worked fine.Overall, you can't beat this rack for the price, it looks great for what it is, and it gets the job done. (Just make sure to remove before taking any side trips to the airport)
