Who Is George Lucas? (Who Was?)

5 start content
My 9 year old son was thrilled yet again with the Who Is/Was series. He loves Star Wars, and he's really interested in the history of movies and film in general, so this book was a huge hit. We're happy that this series goes beyond biographies of the typical historical figures and includes people who have contributed to our modern culture too--Stan Lee, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, etc. It's harder to find decent children's biographies on people like this. This book covers Lucas's childhood, early career, successes and failures, and information about his most famous movies, including the beloved Star Wars franchise. There's definitely enough information for most kids, and illustrations scattered throughout. The reading level of these books is appropriate for the recommended age range. The quality of the writing, however, leaves a little to be desired, especially when I have to read it out loud for the benefit of all the siblings. There are too many short, choppy sentences that start with "and" or "but" for my taste, hence the reason for only 4 stars. There is no reason these books couldn't be written to a higher standard and still appeal to the same audience.

Good for younger readers
I have read a few "real" biographies of Mr. Lucas, so I bought this book knowing it was for younger readers. I found it interesting and it hit upon all the appropriate highlights. There are occasional sidebar pages which talk about tangential subjects like Rock 'n' Roll, other contemporary film directors, and Kenner Star Wars toys. The art is done in a very linear style and some images are clearly based on photographs. I would recommend this book for a young Star Wars fan to introduce them to the man to created the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Good book
The book was good. It talks about when he was a teen how he loved vehicles and that when he got his fiat he modeled it into a racecar. Then he one day was rushing from the library and he slid of the road he got thrown of the car and the car crashed into a tree. He survived. Then when he got better he went to college made films. Then he got contracted to Warner bros and he made films then he left and made a movie about him American Graffiti. Then he got chosen to make a movie called star wars and it became a hit then he sold it to Disney and in 2015 they made the last movie.

I love this series!
I wish this series had been around when I was a kid! So far, I have purchased Jim Henson, Dr. Seuss, George Lucas, The Beatles and Walt Disney for my son. These books are a great way for me to introduce the people who have always inspired me, to my own children. I believe that reading about different creative talents throughout history is not only a great way for kids to learn but also a great way to inspire them. We always have great conversations when we discuss the people from these books because we teach each other new things.

just like his dad
Bought for my 10 year old, just finished 4th grade son. He loves Star Wars and George Lucas, just like his dad. This was a quick read (about half an hour for him!). I read parts of it too, it was that interesting, like all the "Who is" books. It will go in my class library now (I'm a teacher) for more kids to enjoy. My son says he wants to be a director when he grows up (maybe), so I got the Steven Spielberg book too. Great pick and great read!

Short biography of a great filmmaker
My son is very fond of Stars Wars movie series and Indiana Jones. He was thrilled to read about the man behind it. Very good narrative of George Lucas, his early days, inclination for sci-fi movies and success of Star Wars.Who was/is a very good initiative to introduce great personalities to children. A simple, lucid language filled with relevant information makes it entertaining for children.
