Netgear...One Of The Best
I've had Netgear brands for the past 15 years at a residence based network supporting 6 desktops and in recent years, wireless. In 2012 that network was overhauled and based on CAT6 cables with new Gigabit routers and switches. All the new hardware works perfectly and at advertised speeds. This modem was purchased to support internet access to the local cable company as they no longer supply modems and/or wireless modems at no charge. This purchase will give an easier ISP option when the local phone company and cable company price per month are far apart from each other. As it is now, Verizon and Time Warner are not equal in cost and what comes with that cost per month so, this makes it easy to simply change ISP's without being stuck to one monopoly or the other. Cable companies use DOCSIS technology so this is a must have while the phone is still including their equipment with the monthly cost. If moving to cable we will save the modem fee and still have our Netgear N900 wireless router behind the modem inter-connecting our network. Once the cable prices go up as they do after a set period of time, something I call disloyalty time, we can move back to Verizon Fios in 5 minutes and keep that until they apply the "disloyalty" prices and we move back with cable.

Very disappointed in this modem
I have used many different Netgear products for many years and always have been very happy with them. As a small business owner of a small computer sales, service business, I have installed many networks and more than any other manufacturer, I have used Netgear products successfully. So, I assumed that this cable modem would be the same, a good Netgear product. The modem installed easy enough with my TWC service and initially, it ran great for 11 days. Then it suddenly started losing the connection and required hard restarts (power down, wait, they power up again). Leaving the modem turned on continually did not help either, it would lose the connection then require another hard restart to claim a new IP address. Sometimes in the middle of web surfing or viewing an important website, the modem would just self-restart for no reason at all. During the period of a single day, 4 or 5 restarts were required to keep going. When this modem was running, I had no complaints about the speed it used, the full speed that I am paying for was always being used when doing a speedcheck. But staying connected is impossible with this modem. I have ordered a new Motorola modem from Amazon and will be returning this Netgear modem as soon as the Motorola modem arrives. Until then, I will have to put up with the intermittent service this Netgear modem delivers. I cannot recommend this Netgear modem to anyone, for some reason it does not come close to the usual high quality Netgear products that I have become used to over the years.

Time Warner Cable - Works!
I get full speed and stable connection. Only one tech issue ever came up where the modem and TWC could not make a link together, so TWC created a customized authorized signal to re-establish connection when various reboots and reauthorizations had failed us.For anyone with no to little tech skills, this is a very simple and easy unit. It works seamlessly with the wireless router of the same body style (which I dont have the model, I am disabled by 4 cats sleeping in my lap)

Neutral at best...not sure if a lemon or what...
Rated this 3 stars (considered only 2) because...1) It works with Comcast as I purchased it to get rid of their rental fee.2) It worked well when it was working (no drops, constant high speed)3)....it died in a month.I still don't know if I had a lemon or...if Comcast did something. The timing of the death of this device is still suspect. Quick summary:- Ordered it in mid December. Had issues with the self activation process. Called support line and tech activated easily when I supplied the info.- Worked fine throughout December into January. Never had to reset it ever.- Realized Comcast tacked on some false charges to my Dec bill.- After two days of getting Comcast to remove the false charges...modem completely dies.So the 3 stars is more of a 'neutral' stance as...it worked well, but died quickly for whatever reason. Sent it back for a refund.Just be careful I guess?

Netgear Modem Works Great
I bought this DOCSIS 3 cable modem to replace the leased modem offered by Comcast. They charge $7 a month to lease their modem, so this new modem should pay for itself after one year. It has very simple instructions:1. Install the modem in place of your current modem2. Wait for all the lights to come on, which can take up to 15 minutes (mine took about 5 minutes)3. Call your cable provider with the MAC Address (it is printed on the modem, instruction sheet, and the box) so they can register your new modem4. Verify you have internet accessMy real concern is how long it would take to get a Comcast person on the telephone to perform the modem registration, but I had a guy on the phone in less than 5 minutes and he knew exactly what was required to register the modem. It took about 10 minutes before internet access was restored, for a total of maybe 15-20 minutes without internet access from the time I disconnected the old modem until the new modem was working. The Netgear modem has easy to understand lights that let me know what is going on with my connection, and it is also somewhat smaller than the unit from Comcast. I picked this unit because of the price and it was on the Comcast compatibility list, and I'm happy with the choice.
