A decade since an extraterrestrial force has occupied the world, enslaving humanity under the guise of peaceful unity, Chicago Police Officer Mulligan (John Goodman, 10 Cloverfield Lane) is tasked with maintaining peace and order in a city on the edge of rebellion. The young son of a fallen soldier and friend to Mulligan, Gabriel (Ashton Sanders, Moonlight), is faced with the terrible choice of collaboration… or dissent. Also starring Vera Farmiga (TV’s Bates Motel), Captive State is unlike any alien invasion film ever imagined.

This is to Skyline what 10 Cloverfield lane is to Cloverfield, tense and well executed
A thinking persons psychological alien invasion movie! A steller cast that work well together, John Goodman is outstanding in his role and the supporting cast deliver to the same high standard. The invisible star of the show? The soundtrack! The music is excellent and sets the mood or atmosphere and tension masterfully and at the correct pace. There are enough "alien" moments to keep the story flowing and give the viewer an understanding of how menacing they are. The c.g.i. is decent in these moments and a credit to the set designers and lighting people who set the stage excellently. A very good sci fi movie, not a blockbuster or all out action fest but then its not supposed to be. The emphasis here is on the story and the characters and world class films do not need c.g.i. overload to be great and Captive State proves this in abundance.

Alien invasion ... again
In the most part this is a classic Alien Invasion of Planet Earth film. A simple idea that has been recycled many times. This film has overtones of the NAZI's occupations of WW II, as is often the case with these story lines, along with compliance from the world population due to the perceived benefits of security derived from the far superior technology and brutality of the Aliens. As we expect, an underground resistance force fighting for freedom arises and through mass surveillance the human authorities keep everyone in check and hunt down the resistance. If you read or watch SciFi movies all this will be familiar but you will enjoy this film none the less.

Sequel to 10 Cloverfield maybe?
Fairly decent, but the trailer might be misrepresentative ... they probably show all the alien bits in the trailer. Think of it more like a sequel(ish) to 10 Cloverfield in that theyre now living under alien rule rather than one of the more alien invasion / active resistance or war. Slower guerrilla resistance.

Skyline lite.
Confused movie that feels like an episode from a longer running series. A SKYLINE influenced movie that is not as entertaining. John Goodman heads up a cast of lesser known actors, some British, so I suspect the drama was shot in the UK. The audience is left feeling as out of step as the protagonists in this Alien invasion drama. An analogy of Globalization perhaps? The ending has a shade of 'Independence Day' without the spectacle. Disappointing.

Old Theme With Some New Energy to Hold You Captive!
Captive State manages to keep you in such for its duration with its fast pace and interesting take on an old plot line of alien invasion and human collusion. It has some good acting and an interesting script which manages to keep you guessing until its wonderful twist at the end! It better suits those who enjoy the sci-fi genre as my wife was held less captive than I! Recommended.

Waste of £2.49 - Save your hard earn money
There is nothing inovative or even remotly syfy in the film. The costums are not exitentThe sets are just the dumps around the corner which they used for freeThe plot is so flimsy that leaves you wondering if they really had one at allThe one good thing was the acting, they did the best they could with the almost nothing they had to work with.I gave 1 start because it's the lowest possible, I wish Amazon would have half a star o a black stars.

It's a great film
From the synopsis you'd be forgiven for dismissing this film as yet another alien invasion movie, but it's not. At heart it's a study of the human condition under intense circumstances. It twists & turns & has a real twist at the end. Kudos to John Goodman, Ashton Sanders and the supporting cast for turning in excellent performances that keep you glued to the screen. Quick nod to the soundtrack - keeps the tension up throughout the film which greatly added to my enjoyment of it. Wasn't really expecting much but it surprised me & was a delight.
