It Does What IT's Supposed to Do and What a Reasonable Person Would Expect It to Do.
Very content with my purchase of UGREEN USB 3.0 Gigabit Network Adapter. By computer standards "3" yrs is old. So 3 X 3 was about how old my laptop was. I gave it up because it is a Windows 7 computer and you know the story. I replaced it with a slim Notebook (Don't feel too sorry for it. I still give it stuff to do offline to make it feel useful and not get too jealous). This is relevant because it escaped my notice when I bought it that it had no built-in Ethernet port. Ooopsy! In a draw filled with electronic odds and ends (Yeah, I'm a hoarder, wanna make something of it?) I found a USB Ethernet adapter I bought in 2017. I plugged it in my new computer, connected my modem to it. Well, Reader, it did not go well. The thing kept connecting and disconnecting with that sound your computer makes when it recognizes something you plug into it. "Blibliblip!....Blibliblip!" (Use your own rendition, if you prefer). In Network Connections I stared sullenly at the Adapter as it stated repeatedly that it was "Connecting...", "Identifying...". Blibliblip!I did something that rhymes with "boogle" desperately looking for help. I got all kinds of advice. "Open Regedit....", "Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type....", "Open Device Manager, go into Advanced Settings....", "Try a different Ethernet cable", "Try a different computer", "Download and install our utility. 100% success rate.. (I'm desperate, not crazy). Not a single person suggested I try a different Ethernet Adapter. I came up with that by myself.UGREEN USB 3.0 Gigabit NETWORK ADAPTER TO THE RESCUE!I bought it at Amazon because "I liked the way it looked". And, too, it got good user ratings. When I plugged it in it worked right away. No "Blibliblip!" It gave me the speed I was paying my ISP for. A bit of "curious behaviour" though: The Adapter felt oddly very warm when I started using it. I was a bit worried. "Is it supposed to be this warm?" "Is this normal?" It made me a little unsettled. Every now and again I'd reach out to touch it; checking. But a day or two later I noticed it became almost cool to the touch while in use. I stopped worrying. Cool -or almost cool- is good. And it has remained that way with no issues for the few weeks I've been using it. So go green, and get UGREEN!

This product performs quite well as advertised
Installation is insanely simple: Just plug the unit into an available USB port to connect it to my desktop computer OR my Netgear router. The only downside is that my Netgear router is unable to recognize this unit as a peripheral device if I connect my cable modem directly to the router and then try to forward this connection to the UGREEN USB device. In other words, the UGREEN USB only works if I connect it DIRECTLY to the cable modem. What this means in practice is that if I want to watch streaming video, I cannot use the UGREEN USB device at the same time, so I have to power down both the cable modem AND router, replug my cable modem directly into the router and lose connection to the UGREEN USB device. To switch back to connecting my computer to the Internet I have to power down both the cable modem AND router and replug my cable modem directly into the UGREEN USB device. This is only a minor inconvenience, however. Still, it would be nice if the UGREEN USB device was compatible with NETGEAR routers.
