Issues of the incompatibility of the current USB software driver with Windows 10
The hardware itself is absolutely outstanding. No issues at all on the handset and the programming cable. But Windows 10 has made the existing TYT USB software driver issued in 2017 incompatible. It is not the problem created by TYT. It seems strange that WIndows 10 somehow does not support this particular legacy driver, which is in contrast to many legacy software drivers such as printer drivers Windows 10 continue to support.Anyways I ended up using my old computer that runs WIndows XP. Uploading a TYT CSP data file from the computer to the MD UV390 handset works flawlessly, as expected.Yet TYT needs to meet the challange of the Windows 10 imposed by Microsoft. If TYT wants to continue to sell their products in the world of Windows, they have to continue to update their software drivers on time. In a few years, there will be Windows 11 and so on.For consumers like me, we need to be informed about the incompatibility issues and a potential schedule for updates on TYT software drivers before making a decision to purchase TYT products. Otherwise, our experiences would be frustrating, having to deal with the incompatibility issues between a wonderful hardware and Windows. For folks who do not have a computer running old versions of Windows and don't want to go for a distance to bother, TYT MD UV 390 is not recommended. For others like me, I highly recommend this product. The other consideration is the number of channels that a handy talkie can store. A few products are capable of storing above 200,000 channels of individual addresses of counterpart of HT communication. The current TYT MD UV390 product by default is set for 100,000 addresses. Some may say of this as a shortfall. But take a backseat and think about it. Do you really want to have >100,000 addresses in your HT? If you spend one minute per address for radio communication, you need to hold a TYT MD UV390 for about 70 days straight (24/7) talking nonstop. Or four and half year talking to a new person at a rate of one hour each day. With broad availability of cellphones, that is essentially a looney idea. Now I realized that many repeaters do not accept HT trasmissions of APRS, DPRS, GPS data and some texts. Before you buy a pricey one, check your local repeater networks and make sure your region supports your intended hardware for radio communciation. Otherwise you will have buyer's regret. Avoid pricey ones.In summary, I am very happy about the TYT MD UV390 afterall.

Decent Analog/DMR Radio for the price
The radio works well on Ham Repeaters. The receive cuts out briefly at times, but just or a second or less, probably due to the direct conversion receiver that is used on this model instead of the superhet receiver used on the single band models. The GPS takes a while (~2 to 3 minutes) to lock on and tends to float a little.Using DMR is all about learning how to program the radio via the Software. Once you learn how, the radio performs well on DMR. If starting out on DMR, download a code plug (configuration database) from someone on your local repeater until you learn how to create your own code plug.

Not programming friendly.
Unfortunately, I had to return the radio for the USB cable provided with the radio couldn’t communicate with the latest version of Windows. As a result, all the programming was not possible. Speaking with other HAM operators the issue is well know and Windows 7 would work if installed in one of my computers....Enters the Yaesu FT 70D.....and all problems went away....Now I will have to deal with the refund debacle which was said to be issued but never made it to my Credit Card...yet another headache to deal with on this cursed purchased. I must say, I have purchased thousands of dollars in merchandise and this is the first time everything went sideways.

Radio did not work, stuck in firmware update mode, bricked out of the box
I was excited about this radio but will be returning it. The new radio was bricked out of the box, the LED indicator flashes red/green and the radio will not power on. The LED lights indicate it's stuck in a firmware update mode, so either the radio is defective from the factory or it's a used radio. Disappointed.

Nice radio with a learning curve.
This is a really nice radio. Fits very nicely in the hand. Very difficult to program if you are new to DMR. I flashed this radio 3 times with different firmware before I got it to work. Once you have it set up it is a nice radio and works well. Only thing i dont like is you can not program frequencies on the fly without software. So if you plan to take it out of your area to a new area, get a wide range code plug or program the new region you are going to ahead of time. I still havent figured out how the GPS feature works but that is not the radios fault. Great hardware.

Excellent radio for use in Fire, Police or EMS. I use mine at work and it’s always hits the repeater. Water proof too. It’s works great in the rain!
